Chapter 1: Akio Tatsuma's First Night
Dark clouds drifted across the night sky, covering the moon and making the park even darker than usual.
A swing creaked softly.
A teenage boy sat on it, slowly dragging his feet against the ground until the swing came to a stop. He tilted his head back and looked up at the cloud-covered sky.
"…Guess it's time to head home."
He hopped off the swing.
But just as he turned to leave, three figures stepped out from the corner of the park.
They had appeared silently, as if they had been waiting.
Each of them carried a short wooden stick, lazily slapping it against their palms as they walked closer.
"If you know what's good for you," the one in front sneered, "hand over your pocket money. Your mom probably gave you plenty to buy snacks, right?"
The boy facing them was fifteen years old.
His name was Akio Tatsuma.
And he was a traveler from another world.
At first, Akio believed he had simply been reborn on Earth. But after arriving here, he quickly realized this world wasn't the one he remembered.
It was something far stranger.
Nearly eighty percent of humanity possessed supernatural abilities.
Some children awakened their abilities as early as kindergarten. Others awakened them during elementary school. Those with average potential usually didn't see their powers emerge until middle school or even high school.
These abilities were called Quirks.
Yes.
Akio Tatsuma had somehow ended up in the world of My Hero Academia.
But his situation was slightly awkward.
He had already been in this world for a month, yet his Quirk still hadn't awakened.
Instead…
He had gained something else.
A System.
Thinking about it still made him irritated.
The system called itself the Rescue System.
Its purpose was exactly what the name suggested: rescuing those in danger.
Anyone in trouble, anyone facing danger or hardship—human or animal, villain or civilian—could become a target for rescue.
Once Akio successfully helped them, he would earn Rescue Points.
And after accumulating enough points, he could use them for a lottery draw.
As for what rewards the lottery could give…
Akio had no idea.
Because he hadn't earned enough points yet.
But tonight…
He glanced at the three approaching punks.
"…Looks like my opportunity just arrived."
There was just one small problem.
All three of these guys had already awakened their Quirks.
Akio hadn't.
So how was he supposed to deal with them?
The answer was simple.
Combat training.
In his previous life, Akio had spent decades practicing martial arts and refining his fighting techniques. Even though that life ended badly, all the experience and instinct were still burned into his mind.
He hadn't had time to retrain his body in this life yet.
But the techniques themselves…
He hadn't forgotten them.
Watching the three punks approach, Akio suddenly smiled.
"My mom told me something before I came out tonight," he said casually. "She said three people would be delivering my pocket money. So I've been waiting here."
The leading thug blinked.
Then he grinned.
"Oh? Three people? You talking about us?"
Akio looked at him like he was an idiot.
"…Yes."
The thug frowned and glanced around.
"Where?"
He looked left and right.
Akio simply stared at him.
After a moment, realization hit.
The thug's face twisted with anger. He raised his stick and rushed forward.
"You little brat! Think you can play with me?!"
Akio sighed.
"that's a bit embarrassing."
Before the thug could react—
Akio moved.
His foot slid across the ground in a strange curved step, his body suddenly shifting to the thug's blind spot.
His hands briefly touched the ground—
Then both legs snapped upward.
BAM!
His heel struck the thug's chin.
The man never expected a teenager to move like that.
His teeth slammed together painfully as his body collapsed onto the ground.
"AAAAAGH!"
He rolled on the ground clutching his jaw, screaming in pain.
The two thugs behind him froze.
Their eyes widened.
Even their leader, Riku, who had already awakened his Quirk, had been knocked down instantly.
Did this kid actually know how to fight?
Akio didn't hesitate.
He rushed forward, intending to knock the other two down as well and complete his "rescue."
But the two thugs glanced at each other.
Then shouted in unison—
"RUN!"
They bolted.
In seconds they disappeared down the park path, abandoning their leader without hesitation.
"Damn cowards…" Riku groaned, pressing his aching chin.
But when he looked at Akio, fear flashed across his face.
If he guessed correctly…
This kid hadn't even awakened a Quirk yet.
Just a normal person.
So how had he moved like that?
Akio walked over and crouched down in front of him.
With a harmless smile, he asked:
"Do you realize you were wrong?"
Riku stayed silent.
It was too humiliating.
He had a reputation around here, yet he had just been beaten by a teenager.
And now the kid was asking if he admitted he was wrong?
Admit it?
No way.
Akio sighed.
"Looks like you still haven't reflected on your actions."
Then—
SLAP!
A loud smack echoed through the park.
Riku's head snapped to the side.
"You—!"
Furious, Riku grabbed a fallen leaf from the ground.
His Quirk activated instantly.
The small leaf began growing rapidly in his hand, expanding until it was large enough to use as a weapon.
But before he could swing it—
SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!
Three more hits landed across his face.
The leaf slipped from his hand.
His cheeks were already swollen.
Akio calmly asked again.
"Do you understand now?"
Silence.
SMACK SMACK SMACK.
"Do you understand now?"
"I—I beg you, stop hitting me!" Riku cried.
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
"I was wrong! I know I was wrong!"
Akio nodded.
"Good."
Then he extended his hand.
"Pocket money."
Riku froze.
But when he saw Akio start raising his hand again, he panicked and quickly pulled several crumpled bills from his pocket.
Akio took them without hesitation.
If someone came intending to rob others, they should at least be prepared to get robbed themselves.
Watching the grown man cry like that, Akio scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
At that moment, a notification appeared in his mind.
[Rescue Points +20]
Akio smiled.
Finally.
After a full month in this world, he could perform his first lottery draw.
When he first arrived here, it had taken him about a week to fully accept reality.
After that, he spent half a month retraining his body before wandering around helping people whenever possible.
A single lottery draw required 100 Rescue Points.
And tonight, he had finally reached it.
If you're here, you might as well enjoy it.
That had become Akio's philosophy.
In his previous life, he had lived quietly and avoided the spotlight.
But in this life…
He planned to live brilliantly.
Low-key in survival.
High-key in spirit.
After all—
This was the world of heroes.
After returning home, Akio took a hot shower.
Once he finished, he stood in front of a small shelf in his room and clasped his hands together.
"Alright… please give me something good."
After muttering a quick prayer, he sat cross-legged on the floor.
One month of effort.
One chance.
Akio took a deep breath.
"Lottery… start."
A golden roulette wheel appeared in his mind and began spinning rapidly.
Every slot on the wheel was labeled only with ???, making it impossible to see what rewards were available.
The wheel slowed.
The pointer stopped.
The question marks flickered and changed.
A voice sounded in his mind.
[Congratulations, Host.]
[You have obtained a Quirk Awakening Option.]
[Please select a Quirk to begin training.]
A list appeared before him.
Quirk — Water Manipulation
Quirk — Fire Manipulation
Quirk — Ice Manipulation
Quirk — Metal Manipulation
Quirk — Wood Manipulation
Quirk — Earth Manipulation
Quirk — Lightning Manipulation
Quirk — Control…
Akio stared at the long list.
His eyes widened.
He inhaled sharply and blurted out in disbelief—
"…There are this many?!"
