Chapter 1 – Awakening into the Mystery

Leonardo opened his eyes to a room he had never known before. The walls were white, a faint light filtered in from a high window, and the furniture was sparse and unfamiliar. On the table in front of him lay a carefully folded piece of paper. Slowly, he reached out to touch it, but a shiver ran through him.

Written on the paper in strange script were the words:

"Do not trust what you see… Dreams are bigger than reality."

His heart began to race. He tried to remember how he had gotten there, but his memories were hazy, as if they vanished at the touch. He heard footsteps outside the room, light but sharp. No one was in the room, and the door was locked.

At that moment, the floor shook beneath his feet, and the light began to fade. Everything around him began to melt away, as if an oil painting were about to dissolve. Then something appeared… a long shadow, moving slowly along the wall, as if watching him.

Leonardo took a step back, his heart pounding with both fear and curiosity. The shadow of the room began to take shape, revealing a figure standing in a corner of the darkness. He couldn't see her face, but she knew him.

A quiet but mysterious voice emerged from the shadows:

"You're awake at last… Are you ready?"

Before he could reply, the lights went out completely, leaving him in total darkness.

Then, suddenly, another scene appeared… a completely different room, a window overlooking a city ablaze with unnatural colors. Leonardo felt dizzy, as if time itself had bent around him.

On the table lay an old clock, its hands moving at an irrational speed. Every passing second felt like an unbearable pressure on his chest. He tried to touch the clock, but his hand passed through the glass as if it weren't there.

At that moment, he heard whispers from every direction, words he didn't understand but which he felt carried a warning:

"You can't escape… Reality is just a layer of a dream."

Leonardo closed his eyes, and when he opened them, he found himself standing in a dark street, the city around him deserted… everything eerily still. But in the distance, a glimmer of light moved swiftly, as if waiting for him, beckoning him to follow. Before he could take a step, he sensed something strange… a doppelganger of himself, standing a few meters away, looking at him with a cold smile.

Leonardo didn't know whether to run or fight, but he felt one thing for certain: this wasn't his life anymore, and every step he took would have consequences he'd never imagined.

Leonardo stood rigid in the middle of the dark street, staring at the long shadow that had suddenly appeared behind him. His heart pounded, every muscle in his body tensing with fear and curiosity.

"Am I dreaming… or is this something else?" he muttered to himself, taking a step back.

Then, his phone vibrated in his pocket again. He didn't remember bringing it, but the urge to find out what was happening compelled him to open it. On the screen, only one message, short and cryptic:

"If you want to know the truth, follow the shadows in the middle of the night…" He looked around; the street was deserted except for the sound of his footsteps echoing in the cold air. The shadows around him began to move unnaturally, almost alive, writhing and darting back and forth.

He hesitated for a moment, then decided to follow the nearest shadow moving slowly down a narrow alley. With each step, a heavy feeling pressed against his chest, as if the air itself had grown denser.

The alley grew longer and narrower, and the buildings on either side seemed to change with every glance. The windows reflected images of events he hadn't lived through, memories blurred between dream and reality.

Midway down the alley, he spotted a child playing in a small garden, but it was a mirror image of him, running and disappearing into thin air before he could reach him. Leonardo felt terrified and confused, but his curiosity compelled him to press on.

At the end of the alley, an old wooden door appeared, carved with strange, glowing blue inscriptions. There was no obvious handle, but a strange sensation told him this was what he was looking for.

When he touched the door, the floor trembled beneath his feet, and the city around him began to stir slowly, as if breathing. He cautiously opened the door to find himself in a narrow room dimly lit, the walls covered with strange symbols and numbers.

Suddenly, he heard heavy footsteps from a corner of the room. His heart leapt in his chest, and his eyes searched the darkness. From among the shadows, a figure emerged, wearing a large hat and concealing its face. His voice was quiet, yet held a mysterious power:

"You are chosen to enter the world of dreams, but not all dreams are meant for you. Some secrets cannot be easily revealed."

Leonardo tried to speak, but no sound came out. The figure pointed a finger at him, then vanished abruptly, leaving behind a metal key that pulsed with an uncanny warmth in his hand. It wasn't just a key… a sense of responsibility and psychological weight clung to it.

He held the key, and with every step outside the room, he felt as if the city was changing again. The buildings shifted, the sky constantly changed colors, and the wind reflected unintelligible whispers.

At the corner of a narrow street, a glimpse of red light drew him in. Leonardo approached cautiously, finding another door, larger and more peculiar, carved with the faces of people staring at him.

He reached for the handle, and suddenly the ground shook again, and the shadows moved swiftly. Then he heard a whisper behind him:

"You have entered the game… Are you ready to learn the truth?" He turned slowly and saw a third version of himself, completely different, wearing a black coat, a cold smile on her face. This version represented all the fears and secrets he had tried to hide throughout his life.

Leonardo felt himself being swept away by a wave of memories and nightmares. Everything began to blur: the past, the present, and even the future seemed to be painted on the walls of a dream.

Then he heard scattered whispers close to his ear:

"You are now in the second layer of the dream… There is no turning back, and every wrong step will cost you more than just fear."

He looked at the key in his hand, then at the large door before him, and knew that this was the decision that would determine his fate.

His heart slowed, he took a deep breath, and then slowly pushed open the door…

As the door opened, an entire city unfolded before him, illuminated by unnatural colors, with an atmosphere that seemed to straddle the line between reality and dream. Suddenly, the ground vanished beneath his feet, and he was floating in the void, while the echo of mysterious laughter reverberated from every corner…
