Chapter 3 - Blood Awakening

Mo Yankong crouched silently inside the storage cabinet.

Darkness surrounded him, but to his newly evolved senses, darkness meant nothing.

A faint interface flickered before his eyes.

Mo Yankong studied the information calmly.

For an ordinary human, the average physical attribute was around 10.

But after evolving into a Vampire, his body had changed completely.

His strength, reflexes, and endurance had increased to a level nearly ten times greater than a normal human.

But raw strength wasn't the only improvement.

His muscles were denser.

His nerve responses were far faster.

Even the rate at which his cells regenerated had increased dramatically.

In simple terms—

Mo Yankong had become something like a human tank.

He flexed his fingers slightly.

Every movement felt powerful.

Precise.

Alive.

"Interesting…"

He leaned back inside the cabinet, silently testing the limits of his body.

Time passed quietly.

Then—

His ears twitched.

Mo Yankong slowly opened his eyes.

Through the walls, he could hear something approaching from the rooftop staircase.

Footsteps.

Fast.

Chaotic.

But unmistakably human.

He smiled faintly.

"They're finally here."

The sunlight outside was still strong. As a newly evolved vampire, direct sunlight would still damage his body.

For now, hiding was the smarter choice.

And the people approaching the rooftop…

Were exactly who he expected.

The protagonists of this world.

Takashi Komuro.

Rei Miyamoto.

And Igou Hisashi.

Rei and Takashi had grown up together as childhood friends.

Yet somehow, she had ended up dating Hisashi instead.

Mo Yankong didn't particularly care about any of them.

But if he had to choose—

Takashi Komuro was the only one he didn't completely dislike.

Hisashi, on the other hand…

Mo Yankong's expression turned slightly colder.

A man who knowingly dated the girl his best friend loved?

That spoke volumes about his character.

As for Rei Miyamoto…

Mo Yankong snorted softly.

A complicated girl.

The moment Takashi failed to respond to her feelings, she ran into another man's arms.

Yet not even a day after Hisashi died in the original story—

She would return to Takashi again.

Humans were… amusing creatures.

Footsteps rushed up the staircase.

Then voices followed.

"Rei! Get back!"

"Into the observatory room!"

"Block the stairs! They won't be able to climb up!"

The three of them burst onto the rooftop, fighting as they retreated.

Behind them—

Zombies.

Grotesque figures stumbled forward with twisted bodies and blood-soaked clothes.

Their strength was terrifying, but their movements were slow.

Takashi swung his baseball bat fiercely.

CRACK!

A zombie's skull caved in.

"Move inside!" he shouted.

Rei Miyamoto and Hisashi jumped through the broken window into the observatory room.

They quickly began dragging tables and chairs toward the staircase entrance.

Furniture piled up into a crude barricade.

The zombies pushed forward mindlessly, slamming their bodies against the obstacle.

Wood creaked under the pressure.

But for now, it held.

The three students collapsed onto the floor, breathing heavily.

For a moment, the rooftop fell quiet.

But the peace didn't last.

More zombies were being drawn by the noise.

Their groans echoed from the staircase.

Rei looked toward Hisashi.

Then her face suddenly changed.

"Hisashi…?"

He was shaking.

His right hand trembled uncontrollably.

Blood soaked his sleeve.

Hisashi suddenly dropped to his knees.

"Ugh—!"

He vomited violently.

Blood splattered onto the floor.

His body stiffened.

His pupils slowly lost focus.

Mo Yankong watched everything from inside the cabinet.

A cold smile appeared on his lips.

"Just like the original story."

Hisashi had been bitten earlier.

And now—

The infection was taking over.

Rei rushed toward him.

"Hisashi! What's happening to you?!"

Hisashi coughed violently, blood dripping from his mouth.

He forced himself to look at Takashi.

"Takashi… help me."

Rei burst into tears.

"No! You'll be fine!"

But deep down…

She already knew the truth.

They had all seen what happened to bitten people.

Hisashi forced a weak smile.

"I don't want to become… one of those things."

His gaze hardened slightly.

"Please… Takashi."

Takashi gripped the baseball bat tightly.

He stepped forward.

But Rei suddenly grabbed him.

"No!"

Her voice was hysterical.

"You abandoned me once already! You're not taking Hisashi away from me too!"

Takashi froze.

Her words cut deep.

There had been a time when Rei had once said something similar to him.

But now—

Those words were meant for someone else.

Hisashi coughed one last time.

Blood poured from his mouth.

Then his body went limp.

Silence filled the room.

A few seconds later—

His corpse twitched.

His eyes snapped open.

White.

Empty.

The transformation was complete.

Takashi didn't hesitate anymore.

He raised the bat.

CRACK.

The zombie's skull shattered.

Rei collapsed onto the ground.

"NOOO!"

Her scream echoed across the rooftop.

Inside the cabinet, Mo Yankong rolled his eyes slightly.

That scream alone was enough to attract every zombie within half the campus.

And sure enough—

Heavy footsteps began rushing up the staircase.

The barricade trembled violently.

CRACK.

Wood splintered.

The zombies were breaking through.

Takashi looked at Rei urgently.

"Climb onto the roof!"

Rei stared helplessly.

"How?! We used everything to block the stairs!"

Takashi crouched down.

"I'll lift you up."

Moments later, Rei was climbing onto the roof edge.

She turned back and reached for him.

"Takashi! Grab my hand!"

But it was already too late.

The barricade collapsed.

A wave of zombies flooded the room.

Takashi looked up at her one last time.

"Rei… live."

Then he charged into the horde.

His bat swung wildly.

But the zombies overwhelmed him.

His scream echoed once.

Then—

Silence.

On the rooftop, Rei Miyamoto collapsed.

"TAKASHI!"

Inside the cabinet, Mo Yankong frowned slightly.

"That's unexpected…"

In the original story, Takashi survived.

But now—

He was dead.

A butterfly effect?

Mo Yankong sighed quietly.

If it were already night, he might have intervened.

But the sun had not fully set yet.

He wasn't suicidal enough to risk burning alive for strangers.

Minutes passed.

The last rays of sunlight finally disappeared behind the mountains.

Darkness spread across the rooftop.

Mo Yankong slowly stood inside the cabinet.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Finally."

With a loud BANG, the metal cabinet door exploded outward.

The iron door flew across the room, smashing into several zombies.

One unfortunate creature had its skull crushed instantly.

Mo Yankong stepped out slowly.

The zombies roared and rushed toward him.

He laughed softly.

"Weak."

His hand shot forward.

CRACK.

A zombie's head twisted off.

Another punch shattered a skull.

Blood splashed across the walls.

In just a few minutes—

Every zombie on the rooftop lay headless.

Mo Yankong stood in the center of the carnage.

Covered in blood.

Like a demon rising from hell.

Above him—

Rei Miyamoto stared down from the rooftop in horror.

Mo Yankong looked up at her.

And smiled.

Her face turned pale instantly.

He jumped.

His body slammed into the wall and stuck there effortlessly.

Then—

Step.

Step.

Step.

He walked up the vertical wall as if it were flat ground.

Each step sent tremors through the building.

Finally, he stood before her.

Rei trembled uncontrollably.

Mo Yankong looked down at her calmly.

Then he asked a question in a cold voice.

"Tell me something."

His crimson eyes glowed faintly in the darkness.

"Are you still pure?"

Rei froze.

Confusion replaced her fear for a moment.

But after hesitating, she slowly nodded.

Mo Yankong smiled faintly.

"Good."

He leaned closer to her neck, inhaling deeply.

Her blood carried a warm, intoxicating scent.

Inside his chest—

The vampire instinct roared violently.

His pupils slowly turned crimson.

For the first time since evolving…

Mo Yankong felt something dangerous rising within him.

Hunger.

Pure, uncontrollable hunger.
