Chapter 97 - The Next Generation

Maya stood at the podium, nervous but determined.

"Today, I'm announcing my candidacy for the Supernatural Council. Youth representative."

Glad watched from the audience, pride swelling.

The young Manananggal who'd arrived broken and manipulated was now a leader. Confident. Capable. Ready.

"You'll be amazing," Glad had told her before the announcement. "Better than me."

"No one's better than you, Tita Glad."

"Better at some things. That's how community works. We all bring different gifts."

Maya's campaign focused on young creatures—those born after the viral video, who'd never known hiding. Their needs were different. Their challenges unique.

"We need mental health resources," Maya argued. "Identity support. Spaces where we can figure out who we are without pressure to be perfect."

The council listened. The community responded.

Maya won in a landslide.

After the election, she found Glad in Anino Garden.

"I did it."

"You did it. Proud of you doesn't cover it."

Maya hugged her tightly. "Thank you. For everything."

"Thank yourself. You did the work."

They sat together in the garden, watching sunset paint the sky.

"The next generation," Glad murmured. "They're going to take this further than we ever could."

"That's the point, right? Passing the torch?"

"Passing the torch. Building the future. Letting go." Glad smiled. "Hardest thing I've ever learned."

"But you learned it."

"With help. Always with help."
