Xavier has been feeling irritated throughout the day,he kept glancing at the empty seat few rows in front of him.
"Hey buddy, let's go play basketball", his friend and desk mate, Richard came from behind and tapped his shoulder as he took a sit beside him.
You will be wondering why Richard is his desk mate when it was stated earlier that Xavier chases away anyone who tries to sit by him. That's because Richard normally skips class and the number of times he is in class can be counted with one hand throughout the semester, even with that he does half day. The school turned a blind eye to it because he is from a wealthy family and he has an older brother who will inherit the family business. His parents doesn't expect much from him. Richard and Xavier have been playmates since childhood so he naturally sits beside him.
Richard waited a while for an answer but his friend didn't respond,he looked up from his phone and saw him in a daze.
"Buddy,what are you looking at", Richard asked following his gaze to the empty seat of Angela. "I am wondering why she didn't come to school today", Xavier answered absentmindedly which made Richard look at him as if he has grown another head.
"When did you start caring about your classmates", Richard asked with astonishment.
He knows his friend well,he doesn't speak to the people in the class much less care about them.He can confidently say that Xavier may not know all his classmates that's why he is shocked that he has taken notice of Angela.
Although Richard likes skipping class, he knows all his classmates and where everyone is seated. You can say he is a social butterfly.So he knew who Xavier was talking about.
Richard is the sunny boy with an outgoing personality who always has a smile on his face. On the other hand, Xavier was withdrawn with a stone cold personality and always wore a stern expression. Two friends with opposite personalities.
Xavier ignored his friend as he stood up and left the classroom."Where are you going,wait for me", Richard shouted as he run after him."What has gotten over this guy today,did he take the wrong medicine", Richard muttered to himself when he suddenly felt a gaze on him, he looked up to meet Xavier's gaze with the 'I heard that' look on his face. Richard gave an awkward smile and opened his mouth to say something when Xavier turned back and kept walking.
"Hey buddy,where are we going to", Richard asked as he walked fast to catch up to him. "I don't remember inviting you", Xavier replied without glancing at him. Richard huffed and kept following him 'I just want to know what you are up to ', He thought.
Xavier was about to knock on the door of the teachers' office when Richard quickly held his hand "Why are we here". Xavier just glanced at him too lazy to explain himself. He then knocked and entered after receiving a response.
Richard hesitated for few seconds before following him in. Xavier walk to the homeroom teacher and asked about Angela.
"She took two days off because she's not feeling well",the teacher was surprised he took the initiative to ask about a classmate since Xavier didn't like interacting with his mates but she didn't think much about it.
"Thank you Miss Rose,can you give me her number"
"Why do you want her number", Miss Rose asked. "We are all classmates,the least I could do is to call and check up on her since she's not feeling well", Xavier replied with a straight face which made Richard who was standing beside him cough in shock. He then cleared his throat when Xavier sent a look his way.
Xavier left the office after receiving the contact with Miss Rose looking at his back with a face full of emotions."Although he doesn't talk much but he cares about his mates", she said to her colleague.
Richard would have screamed to the heavens if he heard this.
"When did you start caring about your classmates,why didn't I know" Richard asked while he scratched the back of his head."Oh I see,you have fallen for that Angela girl", Richard said with a look of I understand which earned him a knock on his head.
"Ow ow,why did you do that", He screamed as he complained.
"I want to knock some sense into that empty head of yours", Xavier said with a look of disdain on his face.
