Chapter 15 - Chapter 15- Shadow unleashed

Amara's pulse raced as she clutched the orb. The stairway behind them shook violently, dust and debris falling around their feet. Shadows slithered across the walls, following them like living serpents, hungry and relentless.

"Keep moving!" the Shadow Prince shouted, gripping her hand tightly. His normally composed face was tight with urgency.

"But where?" Amara cried. The hallways twisted and turned in ways that made no sense, as if the castle itself were alive, reshaping to trap them.

"The outer chambers!" he barked. "There's a safe room there—old wards still hold the shadows back."

Amara's fingers burned where she held the orb. It pulsed, reacting to the dark energy pursuing them. Every shadow seemed to reach for her, whispering in voices she almost recognized.

You are ours…

She felt herself falter. Her legs threatened to give out. The Shadow Prince noticed and pulled her closer.

"You can control them," he said, almost urgently. "If you channel your power, they won't touch you."

"I don't know how!" she yelled, panic rising.

"You have to try!" His grip on her hand was firm, almost commanding. "Now!"

Amara forced herself to focus. She let the warmth of the orb flow through her, letting it mingle with the shadow energy. A strange harmony emerged. The shadows recoiled, hissing like angry beasts, then circled her instead of attacking.

Her heart pounded. She felt an unfamiliar strength, a part of her awakening that she had never felt before. The Shadow Prince's eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and relief.

"Good," he said, "but this is only the beginning."

They reached the outer chambers. Ancient runes carved into the stone walls glowed faintly, holding back the pursuing darkness. Amara sank to her knees, gasping for breath.

The Shadow Prince knelt beside her. "You've done well," he said quietly. "But controlling the shadows is only step one.

Soon, you'll need to face them willingly, not just defend against them."

Amara looked up at him, confusion and fear warring with the thrill of newfound power.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

He hesitated, his gaze darkening. "The shadows are not your enemies… but neither are they fully yours yet. You have to decide:

will you master them, or will they master you?"

Amara's eyes flicked to the black crystal she had left behind. The whispers seemed louder now, insistent.

You cannot run from what you are…

The hall went silent. Even the faint glow of the runes seemed to dim in anticipation.

Somewhere deep in the castle, the shadows were watching, waiting, and plotting.

Amara knew in that moment: her life had changed forever. There was no turning back.
