Chapter 24 - Chapter 23 - The Forbidden Power

The flames of Arcadia stretched endlessly across the cities horizon, swallowing streets that had once been filled with families, townsfolk all singing and dancing in harmony. Towering buildings collapsed beneath the weight of the inferno causing clouds of ash all while the clash of steel and desperate screams echoed through every district of the capital. The scent of smoke and blood hung heavily in the air, suffocating everything it touched. Arcadia was no longer a kingdom. It was a battlefield.

King Azarel emerged from the shattered palace gates with his sword in hand ready for whatever was coming his way. His black armor, once polished to reflect the grandeur of the Arcadian symbol was now stained by with the blood of friend and enemy alike. Every step he took carried the weight of a ruler who had watched his planet fall, yet beneath that unwavering resolve beat the heart of a father consumed by a single purpose.

"Daeron!" he called into the chaos.

His voice carried across the burning streets before disappearing beneath the roar of collapsing buildings.

"Vilor!"

There was no answer, only fire, death and the relentless march of demons through the city he had sworn to protect. A cry for help suddenly cut through the devastation. Azarel's gaze snapped toward the sound, and without hesitation he broke into a sprint. Just beyond the remains of a collapsed home, a young Arcadian family had become trapped. The father stood in front of his wife and young daughter with trembling hands wrapped around a sword he could barely lift, while a hulking demon stalked toward them with a cruel grin stretched across its monstrous face. The creature raised its enormous axe, clearly savoring the fear in their eyes before delivering the final blow.

The strike never came. Azarel crossed the distance in an instant. His blade flashed through the smoke with practiced precision, severing the demon's arm before continuing cleanly through its neck. Dark blood sprayed across the broken stone as the creature's head rolled across the street, its lifeless body crashing heavily to the ground. Silence lingered for only a heartbeat.

"The... the King..." the father whispered, scarcely believing his own eyes.

Azarel sheathed none of his urgency as he offered the man a hand. "Can you still fight?"

The man looked down at his shaking hands before nodding. "Enough to protect my family."

"Good." Azarel pulled him to his feet before turning to the woman, who still held her daughter tightly against her chest. "Head east. The evacuation point is beyond the outer district. Do not stop for anything."

Tears welled in the woman's eyes as she lowered her head. "Thank you, Your Majesty. We thought..."

She couldn't finish the sentence.

Azarel simply gave a reassuring nod, "You'll have time to thank me after Arcadia survives."

Before another word could be spoken, the heavens split apart. A brilliant pillar of blue lightning tore through the smoke-covered sky, descending like a divine spear before crashing somewhere deep within the city. The impact shook the streets beneath their feet, sending a deafening shockwave across the capital. Flames bent away from the force of the explosion as countless demons were hurled through the air, and for the briefest of moments, the suffocating crimson glow of the burning kingdom was replaced by radiant sapphire light. The young girl peeked over her mother's shoulder, her wide eyes fixed on the distant pillar.

"What... what was that?" she whispered.

Azarel didn't answer immediately. He simply stared toward the fading blue light, and for the first time since the invasion had begun, the hardened lines across his face softened into the faintest smile.

"Hope," he said quietly.

The family followed his gaze, confusion replacing fear.

Azarel rested a reassuring hand on the father's shoulder before gesturing toward the eastern streets. "Go. Get your family to safety."

The man nodded firmly, guiding his wife and daughter away through the smoke. The little girl glanced back one final time, watching the king disappear into the burning city with his sword drawn once more.

"Daeron!" Azarel shouted as he hurried deeper into the capital, "Vilor!"

His voice echoed through the ruined streets as more demons emerged from the smoke. He met them without slowing, cutting through the first with a single sweeping strike before driving his shoulder into another and forcing it through the crumbling wall of a nearby home. A third lunged from above, only for Azarel to pivot beneath its claws and bury his blade deep into its chest. The king scarcely paused to watch the creature fall before pressing onward, every passing moment weighing heavier upon him.

The devastation seemed endless. Entire neighborhoods had been reduced to rubble, market squares lay abandoned beneath blankets of ash, and the bodies of Arcadian soldiers lined the roads where they had made their final stand. Yet amidst the ruin, signs of resistance still remained. Small groups of royal guards continued escorting civilians toward safety, refusing to abandon their people despite impossible odds.

One battered company emerged from a side street carrying wounded comrades between them. Their armor was dented beyond recognition, their banners reduced to charred strips of cloth, but the moment they recognized their king, every soldier instinctively straightened.

"Your Majesty!"

Azarel slowed only long enough to meet their eyes.

"The eastern districts?" he asked.

The captain lowered his head. "We're losing them. The demons are everywhere."

Before Azarel could answer, another distant flash of blue lightning illuminated the smoke-filled sky. The captain turned toward it, his exhausted expression giving way to disbelief. Azarel allowed himself a small, determined smile.

"Not everywhere," he said.

Then, without another word, the King of Arcadia continued his search for his sons, his voice once again rising above the fires consuming his kingdom.

"Daeron!" he yelled once again, "Vilor!"

Blue lightning continued to surge through the streets as Renku moved relentlessly across the ruined capital. Every burst of energy scattered another group of demons, buying precious seconds for terrified civilians to escape the encroaching slaughter. He never remained in one place for long. The moment one family was safe, he was already racing toward the next cry for help, arriving just as another demon prepared to strike. Buildings collapsed around him, flames swallowed entire streets, and the battle for Arcadia raged in every direction, yet Renku never allowed himself to become consumed by the fighting. Every decision he made was guided by the same thought that Zether had reminded him of only moments before. The people needed hope.

An elderly couple trapped beneath the remains of a collapsed storefront watched in disbelief as blue lightning erupted across the rubble. Chunks of broken stone were hurled aside, revealing Renku standing before them with one arm still outstretched from the blast. Without saying a word, he helped them to their feet before pointing them toward a nearby group of survivors. Moments later he disappeared once again, reappearing several streets away where a squad of demons had cornered another family against the remains of a burning home. The creatures barely had time to react before bolts of lightning surged between them, throwing their bodies across the street in a shower of sparks.

High above the city, the Angel banked sharply through the smoke-filled skies. From the cockpit, Ezekiel watched the battlefield unfold through a network of holographic displays that tracked the movement of civilians and the spread of the demon invasion. His hands moved confidently across the controls as he guided the ship between collapsing towers, narrowly avoiding a volley of plasma fire from a pair of demon starfighters that burst through the clouds behind him. A grin spread across his face.

"So..." he muttered to himself. "You boys just never make things easy."

The Angel rolled onto its side as another burst of enemy fire streaked past the hull. Before the pursuing starfighters could reposition, the ship's defensive cannons roared to life. Brilliant blue beams lanced through the sky, striking the lead fighter and reducing it to a ball of fire. The second attempted to break away, but Ezekiel anticipated the maneuver, banking hard before unleashing another precise volley that tore through its engines. The crippled craft spiraled uncontrollably before disappearing into the burning streets below.

"That's two," Ezekiel said with a satisfied smile.

His communicator crackled to life.

"Ezekiel," Renku's voice came through clearly despite the chaos surrounding him, "I've got several hundred civilians gathered in the eastern district. Can you bring the Angel down?"

"You already know the answer," Ezekiel replied.

The massive transport ship descended through the smoke, its engines scattering ash and debris in every direction as it settled into the center of the shattered boulevard. Hydraulic doors slowly lowered to the ground, revealing the brightly lit cargo bay within. Ezekiel stepped into the doorway and waved toward the frightened civilians gathered behind Renku.

"Come on!" he called. "Everyone aboard! Keep moving and don't push. We've got room for all of you."

For several moments, nobody moved. The civilians looked between the enormous ship and the silver-haired young man standing before them, as though they still couldn't believe what they were seeing. Renku offered them a reassuring smile.

"It's alright," he said gently. "You're safe now."

The spell was broken. Families began hurrying toward the ship, carrying injured relatives and frightened children as quickly as they could. Renku remained at the entrance, helping the elderly climb the boarding ramp while lifting injured soldiers who could no longer walk on their own. He waited until every last civilian had crossed into the safety of the Angel before finally stepping back himself. A small pair of arms suddenly wrapped around his waist. Renku looked down in surprise. The young girl he had rescued earlier clung tightly to him, tears still streaking the soot across her cheeks.

"Thank you," she whispered.

For a moment, Renku simply rested a gentle hand upon her head, "You don't need to thank me."

The little girl looked up at him, her bright eyes searching his face, "I do."

A warm smile spread across Renku's face as he knelt until they were eye level once again, "I actually have an important mission for you."

Her eyes widened immediately, "You do?"

He nodded, "Everyone on this ship has been through something terrifying today. Some of them have lost their homes. Some have lost their families. Right now, they're scared."

He gently placed a hand over her shoulder, "So while I stay here and protect Arcadia..."

He glanced toward the crowded transport behind her, "...I need you to protect them."

The little girl looked back at the frightened civilians filling the cargo bay before turning toward Renku once more. Slowly, determination replaced the fear that had clouded her expression since the invasion began.

She stood up as straight as she could, "You can count on me."

Renku chuckled softly, "I know I can."

The boarding ramp began to rise as Ezekiel leaned out from the doorway, "We're full!"

Renku stepped back from the ship before looking up toward his friend.

Ezekiel gave him a confident thumbs-up, "Already planning the next pickup."

The engines of the Angel thundered to life once more, lifting the transport back into the smoke-filled sky. Renku remained where he stood, watching until the ship disappeared into the clouds above. Only when he was certain the civilians were safe did he turn back toward the burning city. The sounds of battle still echoed from every direction. Countless voices were still crying out for help. Blue lightning crackled around his body once again. Without another moment's hesitation, the Orion of Hope disappeared into the flames.

King Azarel continued through the burning streets, refusing to allow exhaustion to slow his pace. Every corner of the capital presented another battle, another group of civilians desperately trying to escape, another wave of demons determined to ensure no one survived the fall of Arcadia. His sword rose and fell with practiced precision, carving through enemy after enemy as he forced his way deeper into the city. Despite the chaos surrounding him, his thoughts remained fixed on only two names, Daeron and Vilor.

Each street he searched only deepened the knot forming in his chest. He passed shattered homes where families had once lived, market squares now reduced to smoldering ruins, and the bodies of soldiers who had made their final stand defending the kingdom they loved. Every time he failed to find his sons, the weight pressing upon his shoulders grew heavier. He was the King of Arcadia, yet in that moment titles meant nothing. He was simply a father searching for his children before it was too late.

A sudden surge of blue lightning illuminated the smoke around him. The familiar crackle of electricity echoed through the street before a brilliant flash erupted only a few yards ahead. Azarel instinctively raised his sword, only to lower it moments later as the light faded to reveal Renku standing calmly before him. Blue arcs of lightning danced across the Orion's body before gradually disappearing into the air, his silver hair swaying gently in the warm breeze carried by the surrounding fires. For the first time since leaving the palace, Azarel allowed himself to breathe.

"I didn't think you would come," he admitted, lowering his weapon completely. His expression softened as he looked at the young Orion standing before him. "Not after everything that has happened between our people."

Renku looked beyond the king for a brief moment, watching another group of civilians disappear safely into the distance before returning his attention to Azarel.

"Who would we be," he replied calmly, "if we turned our backs on people who needed us?"

The simple answer drew a faint smile from the weary king, "Arcadia owes you a debt it can never repay."

Renku slowly shook his head before raising a hand.

"No," His voice remained gentle, yet there was conviction behind every word, "It is we who owe Arcadia."

Azarel frowned slightly, but before he could ask what Renku meant, the Orion closed his eyes. A brilliant blue aura began to radiate from his body, growing brighter with every passing second until loose stones and ash around his feet started to lift into the air. The crackling electricity faded into a low hum as Renku reached far beyond the battlefield, allowing his senses to spread across the burning capital.

At first he felt only chaos, countless lives, countless battles, fear, pain and desperation. Then individual presences began separating themselves from the overwhelming storm. Far to the west, an immense darkness stood unmoving within the royal palace. It was familiar, oppressive, and impossible to mistake.

Valak.

Another presence approached him from above, calm and unwavering, wrapped in shadows that seemed to blend seamlessly with the darkness surrounding the palace.

Zether.

Elsewhere, two overwhelming forces collided again and again, each impact sending ripples through the city. One burned with a warm, radiant brilliance that Renku had known since the day the Orions were created. The other carried an ancient, suffocating pressure that felt like an endless abyss, filled with raw demonic power and unyielding resolve.

Andreia and Zavala. Their battle had already begun.

Renku pushed his senses farther across the capital until he discovered another presence. It was far weaker than the others, flickering like a candle fighting against a violent storm. The spirit itself remained strong, but the body carrying it had reached its limit. A young man, broken and barely able to stand.

Daeron.

Renku's eyes slowly opened as the blue aura faded around him, "I've found him."

Azarel stepped forward immediately, "Where?"

"He isn't far from here," Renku answered, pointing toward the eastern district where the evacuation ships were. "Andreia reached him before it was too late. She's keeping the Demon King occupied while your son recovers."

Relief washed across Azarel's face so suddenly that, for a brief moment, the burden he had carried since the invasion began seemed to lift from his shoulders.

"Thank you." The words were spoken quietly, carrying far more emotion than any royal decree ever could.

Renku simply nodded, "Go to him."

Azarel wasted no time. With one final glance toward the young Orion, he tightened his grip around his sword before turning and sprinting through the smoke-filled streets toward his son. Though the battle for Arcadia was far from over, he now carried something he had not possessed since the invasion began. Hope.

Renku watched the king disappear into the burning city before turning his attention back toward the countless cries for help echoing through the capital. There were still families trapped beneath collapsing buildings, soldiers making desperate last stands, and children searching for parents they feared they had lost forever. Blue lightning crackled around him once again. Without another word, the Orion of Hope vanished into the chaos, racing toward the next life that needed saving.

The ruined streets fell silent as Zavala slowly raised his blade once more. The corpses of demons and Arcadian soldiers alike surrounded the battlefield, while shattered buildings burned beneath the crimson sky. Only the crackling of distant flames and the groaning of collapsing stone interrupted the uneasy calm that had settled between the two warriors. Several yards away, Daeron remained on one knee, his exhausted body refusing to answer him no matter how desperately he tried to stand. All he could do was watch.

Zavala studied Andreia carefully. She stood with remarkable composure despite the destruction surrounding her. Her breathing remained calm, her posture relaxed, and her expression carried the same gentle smile she had worn since stepping between him and Daeron. There was no weapon in her hands, nor did she display the radiant wings the stories often associated with the Orion of Light. To anyone unfamiliar with her, she appeared almost defenseless. The Demon King smiled.

"So..." he said quietly. "This is the legendary Orion of Light."

Before another word could be spoken, the ground beneath him exploded. Zavala lunged forward with terrifying speed, his sword carving through the air in a sweeping strike powerful enough to split the street apart. The attack reached Andreia in an instant. She simply stepped aside.

The blade passed harmlessly beside her as she guided it away with the palm of her hand, redirecting its momentum just enough for it to miss completely. Before Zavala could recover, she had already moved again, gliding around another strike before lightly pushing his wrist aside with effortless precision.

Steel never touched flesh, every swing met empty air. The Demon King unleashed a relentless barrage of attacks, each one faster than the last. His sword became little more than a blur as it carved through the battlefield, leaving deep scars across the streets and reducing nearby walls to rubble. Yet no matter how quickly he attacked, Andreia remained just beyond his reach. She neither hurried nor panicked. Every movement flowed naturally into the next, as though she had already seen each strike before it had been made. A faint chuckle escaped Zavala.

"I must admit..." he said while launching another crushing overhead swing. "I'm impressed."

Andreia caught his forearm with both hands, redirecting the attack into the ground where the blade buried itself deep within the fractured stone. She released him immediately and stepped backwards before the Demon King could counter.

"I've heard many stories about you," Zavala continued, pulling his sword free. "It seems they failed to capture your true strength."

Andreia smiled warmly, "I've heard quite a few stories about you too."

For a brief moment, neither moved, then Zavala's expression changed. The blue markings running along his blade suddenly began to glow with an intense light before dark blue flames erupted from its surface. They burned unlike ordinary fire. The infernal flames twisted and coiled around the weapon before spreading across Zavala's arm, flowing over his body like living shadows. Within seconds they had engulfed him completely, forming an ethereal suit of hellfire that clung to his armor without consuming it. The flames danced endlessly around him, radiating an overwhelming pressure that caused the surrounding streets to tremble beneath his feet.

The temperature rose dramatically as the air itself became heavier. Daeron instinctively shielded his face from the suffocating heat as pieces of broken stone slowly lifted into the air around the Demon King. Andreia's smile faded. Golden light gathered around her body, expanding outward until it formed a translucent barrier that surrounded her like a protective sphere. The oppressive heat immediately lessened, though she could still feel the tremendous increase in Zavala's power pressing against her shield. Zavala looked at her with quiet satisfaction.

"Now..." he said as blue flames surged violently around him, "...the real fight begins."

The words had barely left his mouth before he disappeared. A blue afterimage lingered where he had been standing, but the real Zavala had already crossed the battlefield. His flaming blade crashed against Andreia's barrier with devastating force, sending an explosion of blue fire and golden light erupting across the district. The impact generated a shockwave so violent that nearby buildings finally gave way, collapsing into clouds of dust and debris as shattered windows burst throughout the surrounding streets. Andreia's feet slid backwards several meters. For the first time... She had been forced to give ground.

Zavala smiled, "I didn't know a woman could possess such strength."

Andreia looked back at him with the same calm expression.

"Is that all the mighty Demon King has?" she tilted her head ever so slightly, "What a disappointment."

The words struck Zavala's ego like never before. A flicker of irritation crossed Zavala's face before his composure gave way to anger. Blue flames erupted violently around him as he roared and drove forward once more. With a single powerful swing, he battered Andreia's shield aside before twisting his body and launching a crushing punch toward her torso.

She was already waiting. Andreia caught his fist with both hands, stopping it only inches from her body. The impact cracked the stone beneath her feet, but she never moved. Their eyes met for only a heartbeat before Zavala noticed a warm glow reflecting across the shattered windows around them. His eyes shifted behind him.

Ten brilliant golden portals had silently appeared in the air, arranged in a perfect circle. Each one shimmered with divine energy as radiant blades of pure light slowly emerged from within, their points all aimed directly at the Demon King.

Andreia's voice was soft, "Divine Swords."

The portals answered instantly. Ten blades erupted forward with blinding speed, streaking across the battlefield like falling stars. At the very same moment, Andreia released Zavala's fist and drove both palms into his chest with enough force to send the Demon King hurtling backwards toward the incoming barrage.

Blue hellfire exploded from Zavala's body as he instinctively attempted to consume the divine weapons before they reached him. Waves of infernal flames collided head-on with the radiant blades, engulfing the battlefield in a storm of blue and gold. For a single heartbeat, it seemed as though the hellfire would swallow them whole.

Then the impossible happened. One after another, the Divine Swords pierced straight through the infernal flames. The holy blades tore through the blue fire without slowing, slamming directly into Zavala in a series of thunderous impacts that sent him crashing through the walls of a nearby building. The entire structure collapsed around him beneath an explosion of golden light, leaving nothing but smoke, shattered stone, and an eerie silence hanging over the battlefield. Andreia lowered her hands, her eyes never leaving the cloud of dust where the Demon King had disappeared. She knew the battle wasn't over.

The cloud of dust slowly settled over the ruined district, revealing the devastation left behind by Andreia's Divine Swords. Entire buildings had been reduced to rubble, deep craters scarred the streets, and fragments of shattered stone continued to fall from the smoke-filled sky. The battlefield, moments earlier consumed by explosions of divine light and hellfire, had become eerily quiet. Andreia stood motionless amidst the destruction, her eyes fixed upon the place where Zavala had disappeared beneath the collapsing buildings. Though her attack had landed cleanly, instinct told her the battle was far from over.

A faint blue glow flickered beneath the rubble. The broken stone shifted before a figure slowly emerged from the wreckage. Zavala pushed aside the slabs of marble that had buried him, forcing himself back onto his feet with measured movements. The dark blue hellfire that had once surrounded his body now burned unevenly, its once-ferocious flames reduced to weak flickers that clung desperately to his armor. Blood escaped the corner of his mouth as he coughed heavily, crimson staining the broken ground beneath him. For the first time since the invasion had begun, the Demon King looked genuinely wounded. He wiped the blood from his lips with the back of his hand before raising his eyes to meet Andreia's. A small smile spread across his face.

"So..." he said quietly, his breathing noticeably heavier than before. "Not even my hellfire could stop you."

Andreia lowered her stance ever so slightly, though she never allowed her guard to fall completely. She could still feel the immense strength radiating from the Demon King despite his injuries.

"Then stop," she replied calmly. "There doesn't have to be any more bloodshed."

Her voice carried no hatred. There was no satisfaction in having gained the upper hand. She looked at Zavala not as a monster to be destroyed, but as someone who still had the chance to choose another path.

"Why?" she continued. "Why bring this suffering upon innocent people? Why follow Valak down a road that only leads to more death?"

For several long moments, Zavala remained silent. His smile slowly disappeared, replaced by an expression Andreia had not expected to see.

Pain. Not the pain of his wounds but the pain of memory.

A quiet, bitter laugh escaped him before he finally spoke, "What do you know about suffering?"

His voice remained calm, but every word carried decades of resentment buried beneath unwavering discipline, "You live in your perfect little society, untouched by hunger... untouched by fear... untouched by the desperation that comes from wondering whether your people will survive another winter."

His golden eyes never left hers, "You speak of innocent lives because you've never watched innocence be stripped away from an entire civilization."

Andreia listened without interrupting.

"We weren't always demons," the words echoed across the silent battlefield, "There was a time when my people lived just as yours do now. We built cities. We raised families. We celebrated life beneath open skies. We believed tomorrow would always come."

His gaze drifted toward the burning capital surrounding them, "My grandfather... Azek... believed that no people should be forced to kneel before distant gods. He believed freedom was worth more than obedience."

A bitter smile crossed his face, "So he chose freedom,"

"And for that choice..." the smile vanished as quickly as it had appeared, "...we were condemned."

He looked back toward Andreia, his eyes filled not with anger, but with a sadness that had never truly healed.

"Our people were cast into a wasteland where nothing lived. Crops would not grow. Rivers carried poison instead of water. Every day became a battle against starvation. Every winter claimed more lives than the last. Children who should have been laughing instead learned how to fight before they could even speak." He clenched his fist. "Generation after generation we endured. We adapted because survival was the only choice left to us. Our bodies changed. Our strength grew. The universe stopped calling us people."

His voice hardened, "It called us demons."

For a brief moment, silence returned.

"You told stories about us to frighten your children," Zavala continued quietly. "You painted us as monsters born from darkness."

"Monsters are not born," he slowly shook his head, "They are created."

Andreia's expression softened.

"I don't deny your people's suffering," she said gently. "But revenge will not erase it. Slaughtering innocent families won't heal the children your people lost. It only creates another generation that will grow up hating you."

Zavala lowered his head, "I know."

The answer caught Andreia off guard.

"I know exactly what revenge creates," Zavala said with no hesitation.

He slowly reached beneath his cloak before withdrawing a crystal unlike anything she had ever seen. It glowed with a deep emerald light, veins of unnatural energy pulsing beneath its surface as though the crystal itself possessed a heartbeat. The air around it distorted faintly, and even from several meters away Andreia could feel an overwhelming power radiating from within it.

Her eyes widened immediately, "The Arcane Crystal..."

Zavala stared quietly at the crystal resting in his hand.

"The only blessing that cursed wasteland ever gave us," his fingers slowly closed around it, "Living in that endless hell forced our bodies to evolve. We became stronger because we had to. Strong enough to survive power that would destroy anyone else."

Realization struck Andreia instantly.

Her composure finally broke.

"No..." She took an urgent step toward him, raising a hand instinctively. "Zavala... wait."

For the first time since they had met, genuine concern entered her voice, "Don't do this."

The Demon King looked at her one final time. There was no hatred in his eyes, only resolve.

"I made a promise to my people," his voice was barely above a whisper, "And I refuse to break it."

Without another moment's hesitation, Zavala drove the Arcane Crystal into the center of his chest. The emerald crystal vanished beneath his skin. For a single heartbeat... The entire battlefield fell silent.

The emerald crystal disappeared beneath Zavala's chest as though it had never existed, its unnatural glow vanishing beneath his flesh. Andreia stood frozen, unable to tear her eyes away from the Demon King. Every instinct within her screamed that something was terribly wrong, yet for one fleeting moment nothing happened. The fires surrounding them continued to burn, ash drifted lazily through the air, and the ruined streets remained still beneath the crimson sky.

Then Zavala screamed. The cry echoed across the district with such agony that even the surviving demons instinctively stepped backwards. His entire body convulsed violently before he collapsed onto one knee, his sword slipping from his grasp as it clattered against the fractured stone. Veins of brilliant emerald light erupted beneath his skin, racing throughout his body like cracks spreading across shattered glass. They reached his arms, his neck, his face, before converging around the crystal embedded within his heart. Blood poured from his mouth. His breathing became frantic. Every muscle in his body tightened as though something deep within him was forcing itself to awaken. Andreia instinctively stepped forward.

"Zavala..." her voice was barely above a whisper, "Stop..."

He couldn't hear her. Another scream tore from his throat as his body arched unnaturally backwards. The sound of bones breaking echoed through the battlefield, followed almost instantly by the sickening sensation of those same bones forcing themselves back together. Tendons snapped before rebuilding themselves. Muscles tore apart only to regenerate moments later beneath the relentless flood of Arcane energy surging through every part of his body. The emerald light continued spreading beneath his skin, illuminating every vein until his entire body seemed ready to split apart from within.

The streets began to shake. Loose stones lifted from the ground, trembling violently before rising into the air around him. Buildings already weakened by the invasion groaned beneath the overwhelming pressure radiating from the Demon King's body. Windows shattered without being touched. Walls splintered apart as though reality itself struggled to withstand the energy now being born within the ruined district.

Far across the capital, Renku suddenly stopped. The frightened civilians behind him looked on in confusion as blue lightning flickering around his body suddenly became unstable. Every strand of electricity crackled wildly before dispersing into the air as Renku slowly turned toward the eastern district. His expression, calm only moments before, gave way to unmistakable concern.

He had never felt anything like it. It wasn't demonic, tt wasn't divine or any power that should have existed within the universe. It felt as though two completely incompatible forces had been violently fused together, creating something the world itself could not understand.

High above the city, warning alarms suddenly echoed throughout the Angel. The ship trembled unexpectedly despite the calm skies surrounding it as holographic displays erupted with warnings Ezekiel had never seen before. Every energy reading climbed beyond the limits of the instruments before disappearing entirely, unable to measure whatever was unfolding below.

Ezekiel stared at the screens in disbelief, "What... is that?"

Far beyond the countless universes of creation, beyond the reach of time, space, and every law that governed reality, the Realm of Fate remained untouched by the conflicts unfolding below. Five colossal pillars stood within the endless realm, their ancient stone surfaces stretching beyond sight as they silently watched over the souls destined to shape the universe.

Suspended effortlessly before the final pillar, Aevor remained deep in meditation. Golden energy drifted peacefully around the God of Fate as he levitated motionlessly above the ancient stone, his eyes closed while his attention rested upon the pillar bearing a violet energy. Though the future of the Fate Breaker could never be seen, Aevor continued to watch over him in silence, fulfilling his brother's will.

Without warning... A foreign presence reached the realm. The golden energy surrounding Aevor rippled violently as though struck by an invisible force. His eyes opened instantly. His head slowly turned toward the infinite expanse beyond the five pillars.

"...That can't be..." His voice echoed softly throughout the endless realm, "...It's impossible."

His eyes remained fixed upon the universe below as the unnatural emerald presence continued to spread across existence itself.

Back within Arcadia, the Arcane energy reached its breaking point. Emerald light exploded from Zavala's body in every direction, forcing Andreia to shield her eyes as the streets beneath him shattered completely. Jagged crystals burst violently through his shoulders and forearms, tearing through flesh before fusing seamlessly with his body. His crimson hair rapidly lengthened until it flowed well past his shoulders, while dark horns forced their way through his forehead amidst sprays of blood that instantly crystallized into emerald fragments. The veins beneath his skin no longer resembled those of any living being. They glowed like rivers of liquid crystal, pulsing with every beat of the Arcane Crystal now fused directly to his heart.

For one terrifying moment, his body stopped moving entirely. Silence returned. Andreia watched in horror. Had the crystal consumed him?

Then... His eyes opened. Brilliant emerald light burned where golden irises had once been. A roar unlike anything human erupted from his chest as an overwhelming wave of Arcane energy exploded outward, flattening the surrounding streets and reducing the remains of nearby buildings to dust. The shockwave tore through the district with such force that even Andreia's divine barrier struggled to withstand it, forcing her backwards across the fractured earth.

When the emerald storm finally subsided, a lone figure remained standing at its center. The blue hellfire had vanished. In its place, emerald Arcane energy drifted endlessly from Zavala's body like living mist. Crystal formations covered his arms, shoulders and back, while the green veins beneath his skin pulsed with unnatural life. His long crimson hair swayed gently in the lingering energy, and the horns rising from his forehead gave him an almost ancient appearance, as though he had become something far older than the Demon King he had once been.

Yet the greatest change could not be seen. It could only be felt. The suffocating demonic presence that had once defined Zavala had disappeared. In its place stood something entirely unknown, something that neither divine nor demonic power could fully explain. Even the air around him seemed unstable, bending and distorting beneath the sheer weight of his existence.

Zavala slowly lowered his trembling hand before clenching it into a fist. Emerald crystal creaked softly beneath his fingers as he took a slow, measured breath. Pain still coursed through every part of his body, and deep within his mind the Arcane energy clawed relentlessly at his consciousness, urging him to surrender himself completely.

He closed his eyes.

"I made a promise," he whispered.

When they opened again, the emerald light burned brighter than before. His gaze settled upon Andreia.

A faint smile crossed his face.
