Footsteps crunched across the sand.
"Luca!"
Both of them turned.
A group of students were heading down the beach toward them, flashlights bouncing across the sand.
Autumn recognized Evan at the front.
"Found you!" Evan called.
Luca's jaw tightened slightly.
"You disappeared, man."
"Just getting some air," Luca said.
Evan's eyes flicked to Autumn.
His smile widened.
"Well, that explains it."
Autumn resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
"We were just talking," she said.
"Sure you were."
Luca stepped forward slightly.
"Relax, Evan."
Evan raised his hands in mock surrender.
"Hey, I'm not judging."
The group behind him laughed.
Autumn felt heat creep up her neck.
"I'm going back to the fire," she said quickly.
Before anyone could stop her, she turned and walked back toward the glowing light in the distance.
She didn't look back.
But she could feel Luca's eyes following her the entire way.
