Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 – The Sketch

Autumn didn't move.

Her sketchbook suddenly felt much heavier in her hands.

"You saw it," she said slowly.

Luca shrugged casually.

"Yeah."

"And?"

"And it's good."

She stared at him.

"That's all you have to say?"

He tilted his head.

"What do you want me to say?"

"I don't know," she muttered. "Most people would find it weird."

"You drawing me?"

"Yes."

Luca leaned forward, resting his arms on the desk.

"I didn't think it was weird."

Autumn watched him carefully.

"No?"

"No."

His blue eyes held hers for a moment.

"I thought it was interesting."

"Why?"

"Because you were paying attention."

Her heart skipped.

"That's kind of the point of drawing."

"Not like that," he said.

His voice had dropped slightly.

"You noticed things most people don't."

Her fingers tightened around the sketchbook.

"You're assuming a lot."

"Am I?"

He reached out and lightly tapped the edge of the page.

"You got the eyes right."

Heat crept up her neck.

"You only saw it for two seconds."

"Didn't need more."

Silence stretched between them.

Finally Autumn closed the sketchbook and slid it back into her bag.

"Well," she said quietly, "don't get used to it."

Luca smiled slowly.

"Too late."
