Chapter 6 - “The Audition Link”

It was Riya who said it casually.

"Tu itna serious dance karti hai… kabhi audition diya?"

Anya laughed.

"Audition? Main?"

"Haan, online hota hai. K-pop companies India se bhi accept karte hain."

India.

That word made her heart jump.

She always thought it was impossible.

Too far.

Too unrealistic.

But that night—

She searched.

"K-pop global audition 2026."

Many links appeared.

Different companies.

Different rules.

Submit a dance video.

Age limit: 12–18.

Her chest tightened.

There it was again.

Deadline.

Not marriage this time.

Opportunity.

She read carefully.

"You can apply from any country."

Her hands were shaking.

This wasn't school function.

This wasn't local.

This was real.

If she sends a video—

She's not just dreaming.

She's declaring something.

She closed her phone.

Sat still for five minutes.

What if they reject her?

What if they laugh?

What if someone at home finds out?

But another thought was louder:

What if she never tries?

Two years.

That's all she has before everything changes.

"I don't believe in trying," she whispered.

"I believe in practice."

So if she has practiced…

Why is she scared to send it?

For the next week, she trained differently.

Not for school.

For camera.

Expressions controlled.

Angles checked in mirror.

Timing exact.

She recorded herself secretly when no one was home.

First video — bad lighting.

Second — forgot steps.

Third — expression weak.

She deleted all.

Frustration building.

But she didn't stop.

Because this video wasn't for marks.

It was for her future.

One Sunday afternoon, her parents went to a relative's house.

She stayed back saying she had "extra study."

The house was empty.

Silence.

She placed her phone against a stack of books.

Pressed record.

Music played.

This time she didn't think about fear.

Not about marriage.

Not about boards.

Not about rejection.

She danced like no one would ever stop her.

Sharp.

Focused.

Hungry.

When the song ended, she stood there breathing heavily.

Sweat falling.

Heart racing.

She watched the recording.

For the first time—

She didn't hate it.

It wasn't perfect.

But it was honest.

She stared at the "Submit" button on the audition website.

Finger hovering.

This one click could change nothing.

Or everything.

She closed her eyes.

Pressed it.

Application sent.

For ten seconds, she just stared at the screen.

No fireworks.

No music.

Just a confirmation message:

"Thank you for applying."

That's it.

But inside her—

Something huge shifted.

For the first time,

Her dream wasn't only inside her room.

It was out there.

In the world.

Waiting for an answer.
