Chapter 128 - Chapter 128: Noticed Again

She had a high nose and thin lips that curved slightly. her fair skin was as delicate as cold jade, glowing with a faint chill. There wasn't a single stray emotion on her face. She stood tall and straight, the tailored uniform perfectly fitting her curves and outlining a figure only slightly less impressive than Gabriel's.

Rhode racked his brain. She looked incredibly familiar, yet he couldn't quite place her in this outfit. Fortunately, the system helpfully provided a panel.

Rhode was surprised to see the name Grayfia Lucifuge. He'd almost failed to recognize her without the maid outfit. He remembered Grayfia appearing at the summit in the original story, but his strongest impression of her was that she always wore a maid outfit, without exception. Seeing her in this unfamiliar uniform threw him off.

Grayfia seemed to notice Rhode's scrutiny. Her gaze, which had been scanning the whole room, narrowed and locked onto him, sharp and piercing.Rhode could sense a trace of hostility in her eyes.

"?"

Wait.

He could understand Vali having a bone to pick with him—at least there was a reason—but what was Grayfia's problem?

I haven't done anything to you, have I? Did she get hostile just because I took one look with my "auto-aim"?

Trashy sunglasses!

For someone of her caliber, sunglasses were no obstacle to seeing where his eyes were pointing. Rhode realized he'd have to find a better solution in the future. In a world like High School DxD, where "heavy artillery" was standard equipment for almost every female character, being unable to use his auto-aim was a fate worse than death.

Serafall noticed the hostility radiating from her best friend and was equally confused. Little Rhode is such an outstanding man; Grayfia, why are you being so rude?

However, Grayfia's hostility vanished as quickly as it had appeared, and she returned to her usual expressionless state.

As the host, Sirzechs didn't seem to notice. He maintained a pleasant smile. "I assume you all know Mr. Rhode by now, so I won't bother with formal introductions. Behind him is my sister, Rias Gremory, and her peerage. They were direct participants—and victims—of the Kokabiel incident. You should have seen the details in the previous reports."

"I have read the report," Michael nodded, turning toward Rhode with a look of gratitude. "If Kokabiel had succeeded, the consequences would have been unthinkable. Fortunately, Mr. Rhode's assistance was enough to thwart his wicked plan."

"My apologies," Azazel said with a cold, cynical shrug. "Kokabiel acted on his own initiative, without the knowledge of the other leaders or myself. Of course, he has been punished."

As he spoke, Azazel glanced at Rhode, half-intentionally. He didn't harbor any actual hatred; as a Governor General, he wasn't that petty. If Sirzechs, Serafall, or Michael had been the ones to take down Kokabiel, the situation wouldn't be nearly this amicable. From that perspective, he actually had to thank Rhode for stopping Kokabiel early.

It was just that this brat's attitude was far too disrespectful. I am the Governor General of the Fallen Angels, for heaven's sake!

"Rias, you and your group can sit with Sona Sitri," Sirzechs directed.

In the corner of the conference room, Sona Sitri and her peerage were already seated, sitting as stiff and upright as diligent elementary students listening to a lecture. After Rias took her seat, Sirzechs cleared his throat.

"Now that everyone is present, I would like to confirm one prerequisite before we begin the formal meeting. That is... the fact that 'God' no longer exists."

A heavy silence fell over the room. Rias and Sona didn't look surprised; they had clearly been briefed beforehand. Besides, they were devils.

However, Lavinia, sitting next to Rhode, looked shocked. "God... is really dead?"

"Indeed," Rhode nodded.

There was very little information about the God of the Bible in this world. Aside from the widely known legends, the only thing Rhode knew was that before the Great War, God had sealed 666 (Trihexa). Beyond that, everything was mystery and speculation. While some claimed He had left behind a way to resurrect, Rhode hadn't seen such a development in the source material before he transmigrated.

As for Michael and the others... outside of their daily duties, they probably didn't know half as much as Rhode did.

"Sigh..." Lavinia didn't say anything else, but she let out a long, deep sigh. As a witch, the existence of God didn't really affect her daily life, but as a human, hearing that a being who truly existed had perished was still enough to cause a sense of melancholy. Even though the Church and witches were enemies, very few truly hated God. To most, He was a supreme existence. They didn't love Him, but they didn't hate Him either.

Azazel and Sirzechs watched Rhode closely, but when they saw his expression remain unchanged, they were inwardly stunned. The Three Factions had completely sealed off the news of God's death; how did an ordinary human have a channel to learn such a secret?

At that moment, Rhode suddenly realized something. He shifted his gaze from Gabriel's chest to her face and asked, "Where are Irina Shidou and Xenovia Quarta? I remember they were supposed to be your guards. Why aren't they here?"

Mentioning this caused Michael and Gabriel to look helpless. "After learning the truth about the Creator, their spirits took a heavy blow. They are currently recovering and were unable to serve as our guards for this session," Michael explained. They understood the girls' feelings and hadn't punished them.

Rhode nodded. As long as they're okay. Since they had heard the truth directly from a Seraph, Xenovia probably wouldn't fall into despair and become a devil this time around.

The meeting formally began. Unlike the brief summaries seen in anime, the actual summit was incredibly complex and tedious. The agenda touched upon the past and present states of the Three Factions, covering everything from civilian life to military logistics and future projections. Even with angels and devils running the show, it couldn't escape the standard bureaucratic trap.

Foreseeing this, Rhode had the foresight to bring his phone and a pair of hidden earbuds. He connected to the school's Wi-Fi—guessing the password as "666888"—and started watching a movie.
