The Wall of Bronze
The battle begins. Thousands of Persian arrows darken the sky. One Spartan, Dienekes, famously laughs and says, "Good, then we shall fight in the shade!" The Persians attack in waves, but the Spartans form a Phalanx—a wall of bronze shields and long spears. Even the "Immortals," the elite guard of the Persian King, cannot break the Spartan line. For two days, the 300 hold the world at bay.
