Alexander shook his head. "No. It was made to look real."
She shook her head slowly. "How could anyone do something so cruel?"
Alexander did not answer immediately.
Amara thought about the years he had spent believing Julia was his destined partner, the plans they had made, and the sacrifice he had been prepared to make for her.
Then she considered what followed: a curse that gradually weakened him, years of pain, and the betrayal of discovering that the woman he had tried to save had been part of the plot against him.
Her opinion of Queen Lysandra had already been poor, but now she felt even more wary of her.
A woman capable of arranging such a scheme was not someone Amara wanted to underestimate.
She took a moment to collect her thoughts before asking another question. "Did your father never punish the Queen for what she did?"
