Chapter 27 - The Pipe Smoke Secret

A grey morning settled over Hogwarts like a quiet blanket.

Fog rolled slowly across the courtyards. The towers stretched into the clouds, their stone walls damp with mist. Students moved through the halls with sleepy energy, their voices echoing faintly against the ancient architecture.

But inside the History Hall, the air felt heavier than usual.

Professor Kieran stood at the front of the room, slowly packing tobacco into his long wooden pipe. The motion was careful, almost ceremonial.

Julian, Noah, Lake, and Oliver sat together as always.

Lake leaned over.

"I swear this guy has a story," he whispered.

Oliver nodded.

"Yeah… the kind people don't usually survive."

Kieran struck a match.

The small flame illuminated the deep wrinkles across his face as he lit the pipe.

Smoke curled upward.

He looked at the class.

"History," he said slowly, "is written by survivors."

The room grew quiet.

Kieran inhaled from the pipe before continuing.

"But some survivors carry scars deeper than most people ever see."

His eyes drifted across the room again.

And once more, they stopped on the four of you.

He paused.

Then said something strange.

"Class dismissed."

Students looked confused.

"But professor—"

"Dismissed."

Within minutes, the room emptied.

Footsteps faded down the hallway.

Only five people remained.

Julian.

Noah.

Lake.

Oliver.

And Professor Kieran.

The old man walked slowly toward the tall windows.

For a moment,nt he said nothing.

Then he spoke quietly.

"You found the Slytherin chamber."

The four of you froze.

Lake blinked.

"…how do you know that?"

Kieran smiled faintly.

Without turning around, he answered.

"Because I found it first."

The silence in the room thickened.

Kieran turned.

His eyes were different now.

Older.

Heavier.

"I was once a student here," he continued. "A very long time ago."

He took another slow breath from the pipe.

"And I made the mistake of investigating Naomi's mansion."

Noah leaned forward.

"You've seen it?"

Kieran's face hardened.

"I was captured there."

The words landed like stones.

Oliver frowned.

"You escaped?"

Kieran nodded once.

"But not before I saw what lies beneath that house."

His voice lowered.

"There is something buried under Naomi's mansion."

He looked directly at Julian.

"A gate."

Lake crossed his arms.

"A gate to what?"

Kieran stared into the smoke drifting from his pipe.

"Not what."

His voice became quieter.

"Who?"
