Emily stepped into Alexander's office.
The room was enormous, with glass walls overlooking the city skyline.
Alexander sat behind a large desk.
He looked up.
"You're late."
Emily checked the clock.
"It's exactly nine."
Alexander didn't respond.
He simply slid a document across the desk.
Emily looked down.
It was a job contract.
"I need a temporary assistant," he said.
Emily blinked.
"What?"
"My current assistant quit yesterday."
"And?"
Alexander leaned back calmly.
"You will replace her."
Emily stared at him.
"You're joking."
He shook his head.
Then he pointed at the salary.
Emily's eyes widened.
It was five times her café job salary.
"You'll work here until I find a permanent assistant," he said.
Emily hesitated.
Her tuition payment was due soon.
Finally she sighed.
"Fine."
Alexander smiled slightly.
"Good choice."
