Chapter 40: The First Written Exam
When Uzumaki Naruto and the others opened the door to Room 301, they were instantly shocked.
There were so many people inside that they were impossible to count, and every single one of them looked like someone you wouldn't want to mess with.
"I can't believe so many people are participating in these Chunin Exams!"
Uzumaki Naruto walked in, looking at the crowd with a sigh of admiration.
Sakura and Sasuke followed closely behind; the former looked a bit nervous, while the latter maintained his usual cold expression.
Just as they entered the classroom, someone came up to greet them—it was a fellow rookie Genin from their year, Ino Yamanaka.
Along with her were her two teammates, Nara Shikamaru and Choji Akimichi!
As soon as Ino Yamanaka arrived, she headed straight for Uchiha Sasuke.
"Ino-pig!" Seeing this, Sakura immediately stepped forward to stop her from getting close to Sasuke, and the two instantly began to bicker.
At that moment, another team—Inuzuka Kiba, Shino Aburame, and Hyuga Hinata—also walked over.
"Hmph, I see. So all nine rookie Genin from this year are participating in these Chunin Exams!"
Inuzuka Kiba gave a light snort when he saw that all nine of their peers were there.
After the group chatted for a short while, a grey-haired man walked toward them.
He indicated that they were being too loud and told them to quiet down a bit.
"Who are you!?" Ino was dissatisfied with him lecturing them.
"I am Yakushi Kabuto." Yakushi Kabuto first answered with his name, then continued, "Setting that aside, you should take a look at your surroundings first."
Hearing this, the group looked around and saw everyone present staring at them coldly.

Then, Yakushi Kabuto slowly explained to them that some Genin were taking the Chunin Exams for the first time, so they were a bit anxious before the official start.
After explaining, he introduced himself again, stating that he had already participated in the Chunin Exams seven times. He was not only familiar with the exams but had also collected information on many of the candidates.
As he spoke, Yakushi Kabuto took out a stack of cards, pulled one out, and then infused it with Chakra.
Information regarding this exam suddenly appeared on the previously blank card.
"This is the total number of participants in this Chunin Exam, as well as the participating nations: Sunagakure has 30, Amegakure has 21, Kusagakure has 15, Takigakure has 12, Konoha has 72, Otogakure has 3..."
Yakushi Kabuto showed them the card and explained the contents written on it.
Uchiha Sasuke wasn't interested in that and asked if he had specific information on individuals.
He was only interested in information about Rock Lee and Gaara.
Yakushi Kabuto did not refuse and instead took out the cards containing information on Rock Lee and Gaara.
After reading the information on the two of them, especially Gaara's, the group was quite surprised; he could even complete B-rank missions and returned from every single one without a scratch!
"In short, everyone who has come to participate in this exam is an elite among their nation's Genin!"

For this written exam, everyone starts with 10 points. There are 10 questions in total; 1 point is deducted for a wrong answer, and 2 points are deducted for cheating. The total score is calculated by team; if one person gets zero points, the entire team is eliminated.
The final question will be announced 45 minutes after the start of the exam.
Hearing these rules, Uzumaki Naruto was almost scared to tears, feeling as if two gazes were staring intently at him.
But he comforted himself, thinking it would be fine; no matter what, he wouldn't end up with a score of 0, right?
Soon, the test papers were handed out, and the exam officially began.
Uzumaki Naruto hurriedly looked at the first question.
"This... never mind, I'll look at the next one and do the ones I can first."
However, after Uzumaki Naruto finished looking through all the questions, he realized he didn't know how to do a single one, making him so anxious he almost cried!
