Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Holy Crap, What Is This?

The excitement on the training ground had not yet subsided when Alise impatiently crowded into Solon's space, her fiery red ponytail swaying slightly with her movements.

"Solon, Solon! When can you make my fireproof armor?" Her green eyes sparkled with anticipation.

Solon gave a helpless smile. After a moment of thought, he said, "I need materials capable of carrying that level of mana. At the very least, I'll need a composite lining infused with salamander scale powder, or high-grade magic stones to serve as mana-conduction nodes."

"Then let's make it!" Alise clapped her hands. "Just tell me what materials you need, and I'll go find them!"

"Alise, don't be so hasty," Ryuu reminded her, trying to curb her impulsive streak. "We can procure materials through other channels without you going personally. Besides, Solon needs to rest. Working for four days straight has taken a massive toll on his mental energy."

Kaguya crossed her arms, her gaze falling on Solon's slightly pale face. "Kid, don't overdo it. Crafting magic items isn't something achieved overnight." She pointed to the Shield Breastplate on the table. "I'll take this one. Being able to use the Shield spell will be extremely useful during ambushes and chaotic melees."

"If Miss Kaguya needs it, then of course," Solon nodded. "However, the breastplate is a standard male fit. It might need some adjustments..."

"I'll modify it myself," Kaguya said briefly, picking up the armor to gauge its weight. The weight was fine; the defensive effectiveness would need actual testing.

Lyra looked longingly at the Firebolt Robe. "Master Solon, a promise is a promise..."

"I understand," Solon smiled. "However, the Firebolt on the robe can be used indefinitely. Be cautious with it—try not to set anything on fire."

"Got it!" Lyra happily scooped up the robe, then pointed at the Blessing Ring. "That ring... Ryuu seems quite interested in it?"

Everyone's gaze shifted to Ryuu. The Elf was staring blankly at the ring, the tips of her ears flushing a soft pink. Realizing everyone was looking at her, she coughed several times.

Ryuu struggled to keep her expression calm. "I was merely analyzing its construction. The Bless spell provides a significant gain to the team; it is most effective when worn by front-line personnel. I suggest allocating it to Alise or Astre."

"Eh? I don't want it!" Alise waved her hand dismissively. "My skills already provide various corrections. The boost from Bless would have limited effect on me. It's better suited for Astre or Niz; they're the ones who often have to endure the most pressure on the front lines."

Astre gave a gentle smile. "My shield and armor already provide sufficient protection. Perhaps give it to Noin? As a Supporter, she sometimes needs to be near the front as well."

Noin shook her head quickly. "I spend most of my time in the rear using magic and arrows. Giving the Blessing Ring to me would be a waste..."

"Then wear it in rotation," Solon suggested quickly. "Decide who carries it based on the lineup and tactical needs of each mission. The ring's area of effect isn't large, so the wearer needs to stay at the center of the formation."

This suggestion met with everyone's approval.

The Jump Necklace was allocated to Lyra—the Prum's mobility was already exceptional, and with the augmentation of the Jump spell, her flexibility on the battlefield would increase even further.

Once the initial distribution was complete, Solon was "escorted" back to his room by Ryuu to rest.

"Solon, you are to sleep for at least eight hours," the Elf stated at his door, her tone brooks no argument, sounding very much like his mother. "Your mental energy is showing signs of instability. Forcing yourself to continue working will only lead to failure and might even cause you physical harm."

Solon made a gesture of surrender. "I understand, Ryuu. Thank you."

As soon as the door closed, Solon collapsed onto his bed and fell into a deep sleep almost instantly.

For the next five days, Solon's room was completely transformed into a magic workshop. After getting sufficient rest, he threw himself back into his research. The fireproof breastplate, haste greaves, and protection bracelet were completed one after another. The test results left the members of the Familia pleasantly surprised.

But Solon's exploration didn't stop there.

In his mind, the phantom of the Abyssal Codex of Myriad Laws continued to flip, revealing another core technology of the DND magic system: Scroll Scribing.

"In this world, Falna magic is carved into the soul and depends on individual aptitude... but scrolls are different. Though innate magic exists here, its power is often too weak," Solon muttered to himself at his workbench, holding a specialized mana-conduction stylus.

A scroll stores a complete spell model and the triggering mana on a treated medium. As long as one knows the triggering method, it could theoretically even be set up as a device for automatic activation. This was a concept that absolutely did not exist in this world.

In Orario, Magic Swords were the mainstream—sealing magical effects into a weapon to be launched using stored mana. They were powerful but limited in use. While the Crozzo Magic Swords were legendary, it was still nine years before the main story's timeline; that kid was still in the Kingdom of Rakia.

And scrolls... that was the encapsulation of the spell itself.

Solon started with the simplest attempt. He chose magic-treated parchment as the base, a material with a high affinity for mana. The conductive ink was a mixture of magic stone powder, stabilizing potions, and a small amount of mithril particles.

His first attempt was the 0-level cantrip, Light.

As the nib touched the paper, mana began to flow. Solon needed to compress the entire spell model into a two-dimensional plane while simultaneously injecting enough mana to trigger it once. This was harder than crafting magical equipment—equipment had plenty of physical space, whereas a two-dimensional scroll required far more information density.

Failure. The parchment spontaneously combusted at the third rune node.

The second time, the mana flow became unbalanced, and the scroll failed before completion.

The third time... the fourth time...

Solon was not discouraged; every failure was an accumulation of experience. He adjusted the ink ratios, optimized the layout, and refined his mana injection techniques.

On the seventh attempt, as the final stroke was completed, the runes across the entire parchment lit up simultaneously with a soft white light. Then the light retracted, leaving a faint magical aura shimmering on the surface of the paper.

Solon picked up the scroll carefully. The parchment felt warm to the touch, and the silver runes seemed to flow slightly as if alive. He could feel a complete Light spell sealed within, needing only a tear or the spoken trigger word to be released.

"Success... the first magic scroll."

Over the next day, Solon produced four more scrolls: two for Shield, one for Magic Missile, and one for Cure Wounds. Each one required nearly four hours of intense concentration, taking a heavy toll on his mental energy. But looking at the increasing results in his wooden box, Solon knew it was all worth it.

On the afternoon of the fifth day, Solon brought his newly finished equipment and an exquisite wooden box to the training ground. The members of the Familia were already waiting. Alise had changed into her fireproof breastplate, Kaguya was testing the haste greaves, and Ryuu wore the silver protection bracelet on her wrist.
