Chapter 59 - Chapter 35: The Redgrave Anomaly

The Obsidian Court didn't whisper. It bled noise.

A hundred high lords of the Devil Realm filled the grand hall, their voices a low, turbulent hiss against the black stone. Then one broke rank. He strode forward and bowed so deep his forehead nearly brushed the dais.

"Lady Queen Mother," he called, and the hall caught the echo. "The realm demands strength. The time has come to replace the King."

Kalavajr did not answer at once.

She let her gaze sweep the court. Eyes like chips of absolute ice. Skin like flawless porcelain. That single look strangled every murmur into dead silence.

"If the throne must be passed," she said, her voice velvet wrapped around a threat, "then my second son shall take it."

Vajren stepped forward. Head bowed. Hands folded. The perfect picture of humility.

"Mother, I am deeply honored," he said, quiet and practiced. "But I fear I lack the experience to shoulder the crushing weight of the crown."

Kalavajr's expression did not waver.

"You will take this position, my son. It is your duty."

Vajren kept his eyes fixed on the polished floor. Only then did a dark, venomous smile tug at his lips.

First his crown. Then every last thing he owns.

The silence shattered.

The iron doors slammed open. A messenger sprinted down the aisle, dropped to one knee before the throne, gasping for air.

"My Queen! The King has reached his destination. He sent a transmission, but his directives were absolute. I am to report only to you, in strict privacy."

Kalavajr flicked her wrist. Dismissed. The lords vanished like smoke.

In her private chamber she sank into her obsidian chair, long nails tapping a slow rhythm on the armrest.

"Speak," she said. "What news does Asura Vajrakal send?"

The messenger did not lift his head. Sweat beaded his brow.

"He has tracked the source of the dimensional waves, my Lady."

Kalavajr lifted a crystal goblet. Bored.

"Oh? A legendary knight? A primordial god? Some ancient immortal playing games?"

"None of those, My Lady." His voice dropped to a whisper. "He is a sixteen year old human boy. From Earth."

The water sloshed. Kalavajr choked, coughing, her perfect composure cracking in an instant.

"What?!" she hissed, wiping her mouth. Her icy eyes flared with wrath and disbelief. "A sixteen year old boy? From Earth?"

"Y-yes, My Queen. His name is Kael Redgrave."

Kalavajr turned slowly toward the portrait on the shadowed wall. Her husband. Her late King.

A rare heaviness crossed her face.

"Unbelievable," she murmured. "In all the history of the multiverse, only my husband possessed the raw, cataclysmic power to rupture dimensions and create such waves. And even he did not master it until his thirtieth year. How could a mere human child manage it at sixteen?"

The messenger swallowed.

"There is more, My Lady. There was no trace of his opponent. The body was completely vaporized. Erased into nothingness."

Kalavajr stood. She glided to the great window overlooking the crimson spires, tracing the cold glass with one manicured finger. A dangerous curiosity bloomed in her chest.

"Kael Redgrave," she whispered. "You are without a doubt the most terrifying anomaly I have ever encountered."

The messenger hesitated. "My Queen, forgive my insolence. Why place Lord Vajren on the throne now?"

She did not turn.

"Because he is my blood. If I attempted to hold the throne as Queen Regent, the noble houses would boycott the crown entirely. This keeps them leashed."

"Your wisdom is absolute, My Queen."

The doors clicked shut. Alone, Kalavajr opened a leather bound ledger. Her eyes narrowed on the name she had just written.

"So. He is from the Redgrave line." A beat. Then her nails stopped tapping. "Wait. Redgrave?!"

Realms away, sunlight fell across a quiet room on Earth.

Kael leaned back in his chair, staring at his friend across the table. Exhaustion threaded his voice.

"Sometimes, Vajr, it feels like someone is trying to control me. Like I'm being manipulated from the shadows."

Vajr scratched the back of his head, frowning.

"I mean... maybe it's demons? You know, supernatural stuff."

Kael's eyes sharpened. Cold. Clear.

"No. I've already seen what demons can do."

And I can hardly tell you I've already killed a Demon Lord, he thought, his face perfectly neutral.

Vajr checked his phone and stood, grabbing his jacket.

"Anyway bro, I gotta head home. My parents are probably about to call."

Kael's easy smile returned. "Of course. See you around, Vajr."

The front door clicked shut.

The shadows in the corner writhed. They coalesced. Nyx stepped out, arms crossed, a deep scowl twisting her beautiful face.

"The nerve of him," she spat at the door. "How dare he try to blame demons for everything."

Kael's smile melted away. Something cold and calculating took its place as he watched Vajr walk down the street.

"Calm down, Nyx. Let him talk," he said quietly. "I know exactly who he really is."
