Early morning fog covers the Eldran Industrial District. Police sirens in the empty streets. Inside the abandoned metal factory, people surround a dead body.
The victim's name is Ronan, a financial manager from Norvatik Industries, lying at the base of a steel staircase with a knife buried in his chest. Police team including Aren reach the crime scene.
When Aren quietly studies, he notices that there is no sign of struggle, and his coat neatly arranged and only one clear set of footprints found. It was strange for Aren.
Suddenly officers bring forward a suspect. Lukas Derren, a factory maintenence worker. Evidence is that many witnesses heard him arguing with Ronan, his fingerprints are on the knife and he was seen near the factory late night.
"I didn't kill him", shouted Lukas, but many officers even started to think that the case is closed. But Aren kneels before the knife: "The blase is too clean, as if someone wiped it before planting it.
Later, the case lands in Veydrick's desk, requesting him to be the prosecutor. He flips through the file but one line catches his attention: "weapon unusually clean or wiped".
Aren decides to speak with the witness personally...the tea stall owner. "Yes I heard the argument, it was about money", said the owner. That detail was not included in the police summary.
"Did you see someone else too?" [Aren] "Maybe a car" [the owner] "what kind?" [Aren] "black sedan, it looked pretty expensive" [owner]
Veydrick studies Ronan's corporations records. He noticed Ronan recently accessed confidentialfinancial files. Large money transfers, shell companies, hidden accounts and illegal cooperative funds. And Ronan must have discovered all these.
Veydrick later visits the detention center, to question the accused worker himself. "I argued with Ronan, yes.." [worker] "what about" [Veydrick] "He wanted me to move equipment of the books" [worker]
Illegal equipment transfer...possibly connected to the financial corruption. Veydrick quietly notes down it.
"Did you touch the knife?" [Veydrick] "yes...but after I found him" [worker][note: the worker here is Lukas]. Which explains the finger prints, not the murder.
"Okay, and yeah, one advice,do not touch any murder weapon again, casually" [Veydrick]
After checking the security camera, it was found that Ronan had gotten a phone call before the time of murder, the call was from Marcus Halvern. Senior executive of Norvatik Industries. [After checking Ronan's phone call history by Aren]
[Ronan is the victim who was murdered, and the victim had a call with Marcus before his death, and the one who was arrested on assumption of the killing is Lukas]
The court trial begins, Aren testifies about the evidence.
When asked about the weapon, he repeats his observation.
Veydrick calmly asks him "You believe the weapon was planted?" "It's a possibility", Aren answers softly, Veydrick nods.
After few days, At the next hearing, Veydrick calls upon the cooperative financial evidence, the defense lawyer steps up.
Aren gives Veydrick the phone call evidence, linking Ronan to Marcus Halvern. He presents it in front of everyone.
"My Lord, the time before the murder, Ronan had a phone call of 12 seconds, extracted from the Ronan's phone call history, with Marcus to meet him, and when they met, Marcus told him to stay silent about the corruption but Ronan refused...they fought, which was also heard by the tea stall owner near by. And the worker, he didn't do the murder, The real murderer is Marcus, I request him to be questioned furthur"
Evening wind blows across the courthouse steps. Aren still thinking about the court trial--and Veydrick, when Veydrick speaks to him
"Your observation about the knife prevented a mistake" [Veydrick] "You had suspected about corruption from beginning?" [Aren] "yeah, it was quiet obvious after the statement you wrote in the report..." [Veydrick] Arwn smiles and Veydrick calmly looking at him
"I have to go, thank you for your effort sir" [Aren]
