Chapter 1 - Chapter 1, Part 1: First Job, I'm Excited :3

It begins with getting approved with this respawn grid, which is key to being a Merc here in the Borderlands. It can be a nightmare dealing with them when you aren't immortal. But we did it before here in the town of Sanctuary when a Merc went rogue on us before. It took 20 kills before he got reported for it, and I mean kills on him by myself alone. I bought a fresh gun and plenty of ammo from Marcus that day. Halfway through it:

"Man kid, you are merc quality to me. Go out and get a job as a Merc yourself." Marcus says, amused.

"I really should, this is fun when we aren't dealing with domestic abuse." I say wryly.

I was half exhausted. It was all over a man who was Mad Moxxi's ex wanting to kill her over money she owed him apparently. So he shot up the bar. Very naughty.

The battle is barely worth reviewing honestly. I hung out on the Crimson Raider's balcony after parkouring up there, and headshotting him regularly with my sniper rifle. I also chatted and drank with Mordecai of the Crimson Raiders as I was up there.

"So he's another ex of Moxxi's?" Mordecai says calmly.

"I want my money, you fucking whoreeee!" Crazy Merc yells, furious and drunk.

"That's what he claimed earlier when this shit started." I say, bitter and annoyed.

His sniper was nicer than mine. I had a common dahl. He had a eridium rifle. He got like, 40 more kills as well. With less shots as well. Mordecai was blowing his whole head and shoulders off with each shot. While I just got holes in his head.

"So you should really get out of here soon. Just leave town, this is trespassing technically. I don't care, but Lilith will eventually." Mordecai says calmly.

"Yeah, yeah. It can wait until this dude gives up." I say, annoyed.

Mordecai sips his flask, and shrugs.

"I'm not sharing my liquor. But otherwise, I understand. This is good sniper cover." Mordecai says calmly.

"Yeah, it's an excellent spot. Have you ever had to use it before?" I ask warmly.

We both pop shots into the crazy merc. He dies again.

"I have actually, yeah. When it gets attacked by dumb fucks like Hyperion or some evil company. I swear, sometimes I wish we had a government so I could just get drunk and chill during shit like that." Mordecai complains.

"Aren't you guys the government?" I ask warmly.

"Kind of. We at least own the place. But we don't really make people do shit like get evicted or pay taxes. We just let the Mercs sort that out. We're more of ummm... I dunno, an Anarcho-Capitalist society? Everywhere on Pandora really." Mordecai says sheepishly.

"I see, that makes sense. Too much sense. Is there a planet nearby with a good government?" I ask warmly.

"Just go back to Earth, bro." Mordecai says wryly.

"No thanks. I want to be able to live without being a workaholic." I say warmly.

"Then be a merc." Mordecai says warmly.

Anyway, after that shit, I ended up having a paycheck from Lilith for helping out with that. It was very nice of her to do that. I got a thousand bucks for it. So I bought an uncommon SMG and rocked it. Also I got some HUD system from her that basically made me a damn Gamer build in this Borderlands. Which is weird as fuck, but we rock it anyway.

They let me pick my class, so I picked the Spider cause I'm Machivellian. Which was an intriguing set up. It's pure combat as expected for Mercs. Except for a intriguing device which is a Bomb with a microphone and hologram on it. So I can do some bullshit with that if necessary.

The class is set up mainly for medium range to long range combat. It also is meant to do stuff like ricochet shots, poison enemies, and make sure nobody can be hidden on your radar. Even when invisible. It has a lot of cool tricks, but this is what happens at the start. I'll explore more eventually, but for now it's not worth delving in deep.

The only other thing worth noting is that I can actually splice in new classes if I pay more money. Which is tempting, but the downside is they don't reset my levels for that class. So every new buff will take forever unless I save up level up points for it.

Moving on, today's job is a simple premise. First, don't ask questions. I agreed willing, especially after the chat with Mordecai. All I'm supposed to do is kill a bandit group. They recommended I get some friends, but I'm not exactly social soooo... we're playing with poison to supplement this build anyway, and friends would be annoyed if I ran away to watch people drop dead.

This battle should be simple to an extent. When I get close, my HUD updates me with a map of the location they're hiding out at which is quite excellent. I even see the locations of my targets. I wonder why? Is it just that good or did my boss already hack their tech to have their location on lock? If so, it's quite useful.

Anyway, with that in mind. I decide to sneak in and climb a water tower. I enter through a crack in a fence and walk around quickly until I reach the Water Tower which is on the east edge of their bandit town they have. It's mainly metal shacks or rotten wood.

But unfortunately when I reach the ladder to climb up, a Bandit walks around and points his gun at me.

"Don't move. Or else." he threatens angrily.

I ignore him, and pull out my revolver. He tries hitting me, but my shield blocks his shots.

"Shit like this is why I hate the future." Bandit curses angrily.

I climb the ladder with one hand, firing with the other. We both just pop shots into each other's shields, but his breaks first. And my bullet pierces through his heart, and he fucking dies clutching his chest and whispering "Marthaaaaa." What a joke.
