Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Arrival of Ava and David

The submarine shuddered violently as molten currents tore against its hull. The shadow rising from the heart of the cradle shifted again, colossal and impossibly alive, pulsating with the same rhythm as the massive eye above it. The air inside the cabin felt like liquid, heavy with heat, fear, and the memory of deaths yet to come.

Dave leaned forward, knuckles white on the console. His heart pounded not from the pressure of the Iron Ocean, but from a new, unfamiliar tension.

A glow appeared in the rear corridor of the submarine—a faint, shimmering light that didn't belong to any system panel.

Jack squinted. "What the hell is that?"

Future Dave's eyes narrowed. "It's… someone."

The glow intensified. Two figures stepped into view: a woman and a man. They moved with cautious precision, clad in something that resembled salvage suits—but unlike anything Dave had ever seen.

The woman was tall, lean, with hair streaked silver and eyes that glinted like molten metal in the dim light. The man was smaller, wiry, and moved with a nervous energy that made every step seem deliberate.

Ava and David.

Dave's voice caught in his throat. "Who… who are you?"

The woman stepped forward first, her boots clinking against the metal floor. "We're… observers," she said softly. "Like you."

Dave frowned. "You… survived the Iron Ocean?"

David's lips twitched into a half-smile. "Survived? Maybe. So far."

Future Dave didn't react outwardly, but his hands tightened on the console. "You two aren't supposed to be here yet."

Ava glanced at him calmly. "We're here now."

Dave looked from them to the rear viewport. The cradle's shadow still writhed outside, molten iron and metal veins folding in impossible geometry. The eye above tracked the submarine's every move.

Jack muttered, "Great. More observers."

Ava's eyes flicked toward the control panel. "You know what's coming."

Dave nodded slowly. "Yeah… we've seen this before."

David ran a hand along the rail. "And yet we're alive. Somehow. But it's different now."

The glow from their suits intensified, illuminating faint glyphs along their surfaces. The symbols shifted subtly, like living script reacting to the environment.

Future Dave's voice was low, calm but wary. "The chain… has expanded."

Dave blinked. "Expanded?"

"Yes," Ava said quietly. "You're not alone anymore. Not just iterations of the same person. There are others."

David added, "And the cradle has noticed. It's… aware of us all now."

Dave felt the weight of seventeen deaths press on him, then the integration surge kicked again. He remembered Simon, the eye, the first descent, the molten currents—but now the memory intertwined with the presence of Ava and David.

Jack leaned closer to the sonar panel. "They're reading the structure differently. Sensors are picking up… new frequencies."

Ava's voice cut softly through the tension. "It reacts to awareness. To consciousness. To the chain of observers. You've awakened something, and we're part of it now."

Dave swallowed. "So… it knows all of us are here. And it doesn't like surprises."

David shrugged. "Doesn't matter if it likes us or not. We're moving forward. Together."

The shadow outside shifted again, spreading across the molten channels like a tide of living metal. The eye above pulsed brighter than ever, its gaze locking on the submarine.

Dave's pulse quickened. "So… what now?"

Ava stepped closer to him. "Now we survive. And now we see what it really is."

Future Dave nodded. "Prepare yourselves. The heart of the cradle doesn't wait."

The submarine's engines hummed, lights flickered, and the entire vessel tilted as the molten iron currents surged around them.

And beneath, something colossal stirred awake.

Something older than the moon.

Something that had been waiting.

Dave clenched the console. "Here we go again."

Ava placed a hand lightly on his shoulder. "No, Dave. This time, we face it… together."

The shadow beneath the submarine shifted faster, folding into new shapes. The eye above widened.

The cradle's pulse grew.

And the System on Dave's vision window blinked rapidly:

Primary Objective: Survive the Heart of the Cradle

Secondary Objective: Observe the Awakening

Tertiary Objective: Maintain the Chain

Dave's lips tightened into a grim line. "Then let's not die stupid this time."

The submarine plunged deeper, molten iron swirling around it, the shadow rising, the eye focusing—and all four observers braced for what the cradle had in store.
