Chapter 92 - Trust

Solaris took a deep breath, taking in the feelings that he had been suppressing due to his own self-hatred, and then he opened his mouth.

"Thank you, Selen."

Selen looked at him with a confused expression before responding.

"Why do you thank me as though I did some Herculean task? I merely told you the truth of my past."

Solaris smiled slightly, then responded.

"Yes, and it is for that reason that I thank you... I don't know how to put it, but the simple act of you telling me the truth soothed me enough so that I can decide on what I want to do next."

Selen continued to look at him, confusion written all over her face.

"You see, Selen, I've decided that I'm not going to focus so much on myself; I mean, I'm just a murderer. instead im going to focus on helping discover as much as a can about this world. I mean, hell, I know more than most, and it's only been about a year."

Solaris let out a dry chuckle.

Selene's face still looked confused, but it was apparent that she was about to start losing her emotions.

"Solaris, you are not a murderer."

Solaris shook his head and let out an exhale.

"Sorry, angel, but I am definitely a murderer; I mean, I can't see myself as anything else. I'm fine with the fact that you don't believe that I am, but in my eyes I can't see myself as anything else. So I ask, will you be my savior, my angel? And travel with me to discover the secrets of this world?"

Selen looked at Solaris with a worried and pitying look as he bent over, offering his hand, like a knight to a princess.

"I'm sorry, but for the time being I cannot; I'm already scheduled to go to hell, and I doubt that I can get out of that easily. So you'll have to explore for both of us. And another thing, please stop considering me an angel; I'm definitely no angel."

Solaris frowned slightly and then straightened.

"Well than i suppose, a saint will do instead. Yes, I'll take from Sami. You are the moon's chosen saint, the savior of me. Yes, a saint; that is how I'll refer to you. Does that work better?"

Selen thought about it for some time, so long that Solaris was getting worried that she wasn't going to reply at all.

Then, after some time, she finally spoke.

"If you must consider me something holy, then I suppose that will do; I'd rather you'd refer to me as an equal, though. I mean, that is how I see you."

Selen avoids eye contact as she mutters the last part. However, Solaris doesn't notice.

"Anyways, are you feeling better, Solaris? Everyone was quite worried about you, especially that blonde guy."

The smile that was playing on Solaris's lips falters for a moment before falling into a frown.

"No, if I'm being honest, I don't feel better, but I'm better than I was, and that's what matters at the current moment. I can continue to do what I need to do. I mean, I'm sure that there is a reason a murderer like me was made, in this world of demons and gods, so I'm kind of interested in finding that reason, not to mention the entity inside me. So, what I'm trying to say is that you helped me- no, you saved me. You led me to realize what needs to be done, so I'm going to do that, and that starts with me spilling a secret or two with you."

Selen raised an eyebrow, confused by what Solaris meant by spilling a secret.

However, that confusion was short-lived when Solaris began to speak.

"I have the eye of a lesser god..."

"And I have to stop you there. What do you mean, lesser god?"

"Well, I mean, I'm not exactly sure if it was a lesser god, but it was definitely something beyond basic reason, so I just took to considering it a lesser god. Back to the eye, though..."

"NO, back to the god, did you meet this god? How did you get the eye? How do you know it was a god? What was it the god of? Should we be worshiping it? Can others meet it? You are skipping way too much to be talking about a damned eye."

Selen looked at Solaris with a stern and very interested look, as if this was the first time she had heard a new story in ages.

"Uh.. Well, I mean...."

As Solaris told the story of meeting the lesser god of sloth, Selen kept asking questions Solaris had no answer to; he hadn't expected the barrage and struggled to answer many of them.

He had, funnily enough, never considered the god aspect of the encounter in all that much depth.

He had been so much more concerned about getting home, then later more about his sacrifice.

After some time, Selen stopped asking so many questions as she started to understand that Solaris had no answers to many of them.

With the god portion of the truths being revealed, Solaris was finally able to get to the main point of his revelations: 'the lesser eye of sloth'. The Blessing that had caused him much internal conflict.

"Now, then, back to the eye: I have an ability called Lesser Eye of Sloth, which was given to me by the godlike being; the ability allows me to peer into others and read a strange blurb that describes myself and others' Extramicy, Blessings, and, most importantly, their sacrifices."

Selen looked at Solaris with a stunned look, and a look of confusion rolled into one.

"Have you used that on me? And what is a blessing and Sacrifice?"
