Maya's POV
That voice cut through our peaceful moment like a blade through silk, instantly destroying the warmth that had wrapped around us. Sebastian's body went stone-rigid against mine, every muscle tensing. I turned slowly to find Valentina Winchester standing there, looking like she'd stepped out of a magazine.
Everything about her screamed expensive perfection. Her dark hair fell in effortless waves that probably took an hour to achieve, her golden tan glowed against the flowing summer dress that appeared casual but likely cost more than my monthly rent. The smile plastered across her face was poison wrapped in sugar.
"Valentina," Sebastian said, his voice transforming into something cold and distant. A tone I hadn't heard since our early days together. "What are you doing here?"
She let out a laugh that sounded like broken crystal.
