The morning air carried the scent of ripening grapes as I stepped onto the veranda, craving the solitude that came with Sebastian's early departure. He had business meetings with local vineyard owners, discussions about organic certifications that would keep him occupied for hours. Perfect timing for me to collect my thoughts before another one of Felicity's afternoon sessions.
The aroma of rich espresso greeted me before I even saw her. Valentina Winchester sat poised in my favorite chair, cradling a delicate cup between manicured fingers. Her pristine white dress made her look like some twisted angel against the backdrop of rolling hills.
My stomach dropped. The last person I wanted to encounter during my moment of peace.
"Good morning, Maya," she purred, her sweetness dripping with false honey. "Care for some coffee?"
