Penelope's POV
I never imagined I would be sitting across from a hired killer in some grimy downtown café, but here I was. With Maya carrying Sebastian's baby and him still piecing himself back together after the crash, Dominic and I had become an unlikely investigative team. Turns out I had more talent for this than I ever expected.
"Penny, pay attention," Dominic snapped, shoving a manila folder across the sticky table. "This information could be the difference between Sebastian living or dying."
"Easy there, secret agent," I shot back, though I grabbed the folder immediately. "What's with the dramatic persona? Are you planning to disappear in a cloud of smoke next?"
Dominic fixed me with a look that could freeze hell over. Gone was the smooth-talking charmer who used to flirt with every woman in sight. This version of him was all business, all sharp edges and calculated moves. The danger had transformed him completely.
