Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Silk and Silence

Everything seemed normal today, it's as if someone had pressed deleted on the entire night.

Gunshots, Dead bodies and blood are all normal in Family like ours.

I didn't let myself think too much of it, because if I did, I would have to admit what I'm not

ready to face.

So I brushed it away.

Mafia feud.

Power play.

Rival families.

Nothing personal.

Nothing about me.

I was eating breakfast when a maid approached me "Miss Rossi, Mr. Rossi sends for you in his

office" she said, while staring at the floor. I don't know why they all avoid eye contact with me.

I nodded and dismissed her.

I hurried with my breakfast and hurried to father's office.

His office was at the end of hall on the ground floor.

The halls are empty and it gets darker as I go in. no one is allowed at this part of the house

excepts if father allows them.

I knocked once on the door, before I could knock the second time, a deep voice came from his

office "Come in."

I opened the door and I saw him.

I saw Damian Volkov sitting at the chair opposite my father and holding a document, I hope it's

not what I think it is.

Damian looked at me with pity, he knew what he's doing is wrong but yet he's still doing it.

"sit" father said.

I nodded and sat at the only vacant seat which was beside Damian.Anytime I see Damian, I always think of my little brother he took from me and I'll be filled with

rage and sadness.

I glanced over at the document Damian was holding and I saw it was a marriage contract. My

eyes widened at the sight of it.

I glanced over at my father and he looked me straight in the eye and said "sign it." He sounded

calm yet annoyed. I don't know if my existence just pisses him off.

I looked at Damian, I hoped he would change his mind, but he already signed the paper.

He handed the paper to me and I took it hesitantly.

My name was already written at the bottom.

Isabella Volkov.

The name made me sick.

My vision is already getting blurry with the tears forming in my eyes. I already decided I would

end it all and today will be the day I join Lorenzo.

I signed the paper and a drop of tear fell on the paper, this paper and pen just sealed my fate.

"You can leave.

" Father said. He didn't need to raise his voice, it already carries authority.

I walked out of his office.

"This isn't marriage" I whispered to myself.

I went to the basement instead of going to my room. I didn't cry. I was done crying.

I always go to the basement when I don't want to be found and wanted to be left alone.

The basement was dark so I struggled to find the light switch.

I turned the light on and a saw a bottle of insecticide.

"Perfect." I whispered to myself.

I didn't write any suicide note because there was nothing I wanted to say to anyone.

I opened the lid and the harsh small entered my nose. I hope it'll kill me instantly.

"Isabella!" that voice! It was Damian.

"Keep that thing away" he said.

I looked back and saw him and my father. How did they find me?

Father didn't look scared. He looked furious.

"Don't be foolish Isabella" Father said.

I looked at him then at Damian and I smiled. I quickly drank the insecticide.

"Isabella!" Damian screamed my name. I couldn't care less.

I felt dizzy and sick instantly.

I couldn't breathe well, my eyes were tearing up, my chest was burning me. It hurst so bad.

I fell and let out a scream of agony.

"CALL MATTIA NOW!" Damian yelled

No. Mattia is guy almost all the mafia family in Milan goes to when they are seriously damaged.

He isn't recognized by the government, but he is recognized by us.

"GET HER OUT OF HERE" father yelled. He wasn't afraid of losing me but he was afraid of losing

his empire.

"Please. No" tears are rolling down my eyes now. I didn't think it would hurt this much.

I thought it would be quick. Bitter. Then nothing.

I thought wrong.

My throat feels like it's closing, like invisible hands are squeezing it shut. I cough, but it's not a

normal cough. It's wet, violent, tearing through me.

Someone is still shouting my name.

The ceiling is spinning. I taste something metallic and wrong.

Strong hands grabbed my shoulders, turning me onto my side.

Damian's face appeared above me. Dark eyes. Sharp jaw. But something different I his

expression now.

Not cold.

Panicked.

"What did she take?" he demands

A guard holds up a small bottle with shaking hands. "Insecticide, signore."Silence.

Just for a second.

Then everything explodes.

"Get the car!" Damain barked "Now!"

Why is he so concerned? He murdered my brother, it would take nothing for him to watch me

die.

I try to push him away but my arms felt too heavy and I couldn't move them.

"Don't," I rasp. "Don't help me."

Another cough rips through me. My lungs feel like they're filling with something thick and

suffocating.

"Stay with me." Damian says, his hands holding me as if he can't let go, like I'm fragile.

I wanted to tell him to stop but I couldn't speak.

Damian carried me, I couldn't feel anything. I barely hear the door and car door slam.

Everything is distant.

Except my heartbeat. It was too fast and too loud.

I'm laid across the backseat. Someone is pressing my stomach. Someone is telling me to

breathe.

I don't want to breathe, I just want this to be over and I'll be with Lorenzo soon.

"Isabella." Damian's voice is right next to my ear now. "Look at me."

I force my eyes open.

His face is closer to mine than it has ever been. No arrogance. No Dominance. Just fear.

"You don't get to leave like this, do you understand?" he said.

I tried to speak but the only word that could escape my lips was "Lorenzo."

Damian's eyes shifted to empathy the moment he heard Lorenzo's name.

Lorenzo didn't have to leave that way either, but yet he was murdered by my so called fiancé.

The car screeches to a stop.

"MATTIA!" Damian screamed as he got out of the car."Get her in" Mattia said. "she's dying, quickly!"

They carried me out of the car and into Mattia's place.

Hands everywhere.

Voices overlapping.

"She's struggling to breathe. Her pulse is unstable" Mattia said.

"Hold her still."

"No. please" I tried to stop them but I couldn't anymore, my vision was already slipping away.

"You're not dying tonight" Damian says through clenched teeth, holding my shoulders down as

Mattia forces something bitter between my lips.

I gag.

I couldn't hold it anymore, my vision was slipping away and I blacked out.
