Chapter 3 - Chapter 3- False assurance

Footsteps of all ages and genders were mixed into the crowd as all of them were in frantic fear to preserve their own lives. A portion of the running crowd was screaming while another was silent but forcefully getting their way in. And in amidst of panicked mob, at the furthest behind were a teen and a child.

'Damn... we were too late, this sectors entire evacuation center is almost full from the looks of it, W-we need to go to another one, it's a mile away from here.'

As Kalan moved with his own decision and within his own arms was his own sister a nine year old child, her face was full of gloom due to frantic recent events that she couldn't understand. At first she was staying at their apartment then a explosion rang around the area of their building, with those sound his brother took only all the necessary equipment and items for an evacuation thus leaving a bundle of items at their locked adobe.

As Kalan ran through the streets a screech can be heard from the air, he looked up and saw multitude of jets flying to the opposite of their direction.

"Hey, Kalan, what's happening?"

He looked down to his arms and gave a smile while squinting his eyes.

"ah.. you see, I also don't know myself so we are just following government procedure"

With those words escaping from his mouth the girl gave a confused look. Kalan jogged to conserve energy as he knew that sprinting with a girl on his arms may result on her getting hurt and as they go near the next evacuation center the girl spoke.

"Your face.. are you worried?"

Kalan slowed down his own pace with the relief that not many yet has arrived at this sector as this was one of the furthest then he glanced down on his arms.

'Ah, I showed it.'

He slowed down and and gently assisting the little girl to go down and stand with her own feet, grabbing her hands to follow him he replied.

"of course, why not? It's not everyday when almost of city goes into panic, so that's why being a little or extra worried would do more than nothing."

As both of them walked a stream of line was ahead of them, many evacuates were ahead them however the shelter has more than enough resource and space to keep them to accommodate.

Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!!

"Keep in line!!, There are more spaces and rations for you lots to accommodate and there are no other people coming in here!!."

Kalan looked at the man Infront of the line with a whistle bared on his mouth, he was wearing a clothe in blue with a combinations of black stripes, he was a police officer stationed to guard this section of the center, and behind him were four of his comrades guns in hand to make sure that no one turns irrational, after all weapons were the best tool to make people calm down whether they wanted or not.

As they walked in line luggage, bags, pockets were inspected for confiscation to uproot future hazards. Kalan walked through Infront of the inspection area separated from his sister as she was instructed by Kalan to go first and wait for him at the entrance of the shelter.

"Lay you're bag at the conveyer belt , open the pockets, hands up and then spread your thighs" Said by the buff man that's checking on his pockets and clothes by gently tapping to check if there are any hidden items.

A few minutes later he came out of the inspection zone with bag in hand and within a few meters in the outline of his vision he can see a girl- his younger sister flailing her hands up to get his attention, he walked towards her in a hurrying walk and took her hands to go to the closest officer.

Later they were assigned to a room which they are able to use, the room had bunkbeds for two, Her sister slumped at the top bed and he checked the necessities that were on his bag.

'Money, napkins, phone, sanitizer... Most of the things we need is here.'

As he scourged at his bag, her sister peaked from above the bunkbed.

"...hey, Kalan when are we going home?"

The teen boy stopped, he looked up and covered his worry with a smile with bits of relief.

"I don't know, maybe a few days or a week, depending on the situation we might stay here for a few weeks."

She swung her bare feet back and fort in the air at the end of the bed looking at her brother, Kalan moved his hand and took out his phone, he searched through his files and found the downloaded videos, he handed it to her sister and spoke with re-assuring sound.

"take this and entertain yourself, I'll go out for a bit to get some rations and buy as necessities that we are lacking, also lock the door for me and don't open until it's me, and I have a key remember that."

"Kay!!"

She took the phone happily and slumped to the pillow with the device at hand.

Kalan locked the indoor mechanism first before closing the door, he checked the steel door to see if he can open it with brute force without the key his holding, it didn't budge, he was assured for his sister safety behind this door.

A while later he walked into a straight line, evacuees like him we're filled with worry that they had to be confined in such a place and have no knowledge of what's happening outside. Most of the people who came here was far from the center of city which the flying abominations flew and the appearance of the giant stone hands, all they had heard was sirens instructing them to flee immediately from the vicinity seek shelter.

"Hey have you heard the large explosion earlier? I also saw some jets, do you think another terrorist is out on lose and gathered an army?"

Whispired by a man behind Kalan, As he walked forward another voice intruded.

"No, It's different from what I heard, they said a huge lump of flesh was flying around like a dragon!!"

Kalan's ears perked up as he heard the description, he's legs froze up and remembered the feeling of losing control of his own body, it was horrifying, losing control of ones body, unable to do anything, unable to resist to anything and it all came just with from a glance.

As he is next in turn of the line a screeching sound echoed through the ceiling, path and almost every room of the shelter.

"Hello good afternoon everyone! This is the head of this shelter, we are currently experiencing a unforseen situation, the authorities will give us a explanation in a day or two at most, so be rest assured as we aren't barbaric from the past!!"

What an incredible small speech that was, giving a reassuring promise that everything was alright, a false protection to bolster the mood of the people, as Kalan heard all of this he was indifferent. He had head and seen a lot wonders in his current teenage years and this isn't a first time for him that everybody is lying to grasp a little bit of hope from what he only knows of the outside.
