Camille remembered the day all too well, enough to know that Hayden had not been at her side. He had returned home only moments before the men from court arrived to deliver the dreadful news.
Once Camille heard that her brother was lost, grief struck her so deeply that she could not bring herself to speak to the visitors. Hayden had done all the speaking for her, and she had been most grateful to him then.
"Hayden would never harm your parents, Damien. That is not the kind of man he is. You will not succeed in planting that thought within my mind," Camille said, though she carried hidden fears. "We came to speak about our troubles and mending them."
"You must calm yourself, dear aunt. I said that I don't believe it, as he has always cared for us, and he cares for you. You are the one who seems to have doubts. Besides," Damien looked ahead. "It would be foolish for him to think he could get the estate."
