Chapter 119 - Chapter 9: Hit-and-Run Heartbeat

It was supposed to be a normal walk.

That's it.

Just a walk.

No portals. No fights. No chaos.

"…So then I told him, 'That's not how electricity works,' and he still tried it anyway—" Denki was talking behind us somewhere.

"I HEARD THAT!" he added immediately.

I ignored him.

We were heading toward the gym—me, Kaito, Kirishima, Mina, and Izuku Midoriya—just walking down the street like actual normal students for once.

Sunlight.

People around.

No villains.

No danger.

"…This is nice," Kirishima said, stretching his arms behind his head. "Just chillin' for once."

Mina nodded.

"Right? No one trying to stab anyone—"

I paused slightly.

"…Don't say that."

Kaito snorted.

"…You just jinxed it."

Midoriya looked up from his notes.

"…Statistically speaking, given recent patterns—"

"Midoriya, don't," I said.

For a second—

Everything felt calm.

Then—

The Drop

A shadow passed overhead.

Fast.

Sudden.

My instincts kicked in instantly.

I turned—

Space already starting to warp—

Too slow.

She landed right in front of me.

"Ren~!"

My eyes widened.

"…You've got to be—"

No Time to React

Before I could teleport—

Before I could move—

Before I could even finish the thought—

She grabbed my collar.

Pulled me forward—

And—

Kissed me.

System Failure 2.0

My brain shut down instantly.

No thoughts.

No movement.

No portals.

No anything.

Just—

error.

Gone Just As Fast

She pulled back just as quickly.

Grinning.

Eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Missed you~!"

And then—

She jumped back—

Flipped onto a nearby ledge—

"Catch me next time!"

And she was gone.

Just like that.

Silence

Complete.

Utter.

Silence.

I stood there.

Frozen.

"…I…"

Nothing.

Immediate Reactions

"…OH MY GOD—" Mina gasped.

Kirishima's jaw dropped.

"BRO—?!"

Midoriya's notebook fell out of his hands.

"…That just happened—"

Denki (somewhere behind us) screamed:

"WHAT DID I MISS?!"

Kaito just stared at me.

"…You didn't even move."

"…I couldn't," I said weakly.

Mina Strikes

Mina suddenly slid right next to me, grinning like she'd just found her favorite piece of gossip ever.

"OHHHH~ Ren~!"

"…No."

"YES," she said immediately.

"She literally just dropped in, kissed you, and left like it was NOTHING!"

"…I noticed."

Mina leaned closer, smirking.

"She is so into you."

"…No she's not."

Everyone stared at me.

"…Ren," Kirishima said slowly. "She's been chasing you for like… how long now?"

"…That doesn't mean—"

"She drank your blood," Kaito added.

"…THAT DOESN'T HELP YOUR POINT—"

Mina laughed.

"Oh she is lovey-dovey-ing you HARD."

I covered my face again.

"…I hate this."

Midoriya, the Analyst

Midoriya suddenly stepped forward, eyes wide.

"…Actually, from a behavioral standpoint, this could indicate a strong fixation bordering on—"

"Midoriya, stop," I said immediately.

"…Right."

Ren's State

I finally lowered my hands.

Face still warm.

Brain still catching up.

"…Why does this keep happening to me?"

Kaito shrugged.

"…You're interesting."

"That's not a reason."

Mina Continues (Of Course She Does)

Mina spun around in front of me, walking backward.

"Ooooh, I can already see it—"

"No."

"Ren and Toga~ sitting in a—"

"NO."

"—tree—"

"I WILL TELEPORT YOU—"

She laughed, dodging back.

"YOU CAN'T CATCH ME!"

"…I LITERALLY CAN—"

Back to Reality

Eventually, the teasing calmed down.

A little.

Not much.

But as we kept walking—

I couldn't shake the feeling.

I touched my collar slightly.

Where she grabbed me.

"…She's getting bolder…"

Kaito nodded beside me.

"…Yeah."

Midoriya added quietly:

"…And more unpredictable."

I exhaled slowly.

"…Then I just have to be faster."

Final Scene

Far above—

On a rooftop—

Himiko Toga watched them walk away.

She smiled softly.

Touching her lips lightly.

"…He didn't run this time…"

A small giggle escaped her.

"…Next time…"

Her eyes gleamed.

"…I'll stay longer."
