Chapter 23 - chapter 21. The Ancient beast

The trees at the edge of the clearing didn't just move—

They broke.

A massive force pushed through the forest, snapping branches like they were nothing. The ground trembled under its weight, each step slow… deliberate… powerful.

The pack shifted instantly.

Claws extended. Eyes glowed. Bodies lowered into defensive stances.

Even the rogues backed away.

Whatever was coming—

It wasn't on anyone's side.

Elara felt it before she saw it.

A deep, suffocating pressure settled in her chest, making it hard to breathe. The silver energy inside her stirred again, reacting to something ancient.

Lucien stepped slightly in front of her.

"Stay close," he said, his voice low but firm.

The darkness between the trees thickened.

Then—

Two enormous glowing eyes opened in the shadows.

Not red like the rogues.

Not gold like the Lycans.

But a cold, unnatural blue.

A low growl followed, deep enough to shake the air itself.

Gamma took a step back.

"I've never felt anything like this…"

The creature stepped forward.

And for the first time—

They saw it.

It was larger than any Lycan.

Its body was massive, covered in dark, rough fur that seemed to absorb the light around it. Jagged scars ran across its skin, old and deep, as if it had survived countless battles.

Its claws dug into the earth, leaving cracks behind.

And its eyes—

Those glowing blue eyes locked onto Elara.

Only Elara.

The rogue leader's confidence vanished.

"That's… not possible," he muttered.

Lucien's expression darkened.

"It's been awakened."

The beast inhaled slowly, as if scenting the air.

Then it spoke.

Not in words—

But in a deep, echoing sound that resonated inside their minds.

Elara felt it clearly.

Moonborne…

Her breath caught.

"It's calling me," she whispered.

Lucien turned sharply. "Don't answer it."

But the connection had already formed.

The silver light flickered faintly around Elara again, reacting to the creature's presence.

The beast took another step forward.

The ground cracked beneath its weight.

You carry what was lost…

Elara's heart pounded.

"I don't understand…"

The beast's gaze didn't waver.

You will return it.

A sudden surge of energy burst from Elara, stronger than before. The wind around her spiraled outward, pushing everyone back.

Lucien held his ground, but barely.

"Elara, fight it!"

"I'm trying!" she cried.

The beast moved again—

Faster this time.

In a blur of motion, it lunged toward her.

Lucien intercepted it instantly.

The impact shook the entire clearing.

Claws collided. Power crashed.

The Alpha and the ancient creature locked in a brutal struggle, neither giving ground.

The pack watched in shock.

Gamma shouted, "Fall back! This isn't our fight!"

But no one moved.

They couldn't.

Because this wasn't just a fight.

It was something far worse.

A clash between something ancient…

And something awakening.

Elara staggered to her feet, the silver energy still burning through her veins.

Her eyes lifted.

And for the first time—

She didn't feel afraid of the beast.

She felt connected to it.

Drawn to it.

As if a part of her already knew—

This wasn't just an enemy.

It was a beginning.
