Lucas dropped onto a bench by the fountain, set his pack at his feet, and took a long pull from his waterskin. The cold hit perfectly. In midsummer heat, nothing beat ice water.

He leaned back and stared at the sky, fingers absently flicking through open-close-open-close motions on the System interface only he could see. The one generated by Myriad Phenomena: Primal Origin.

His gaze drifted out of focus, and his thoughts wandered backward.

Lucas, a transmigrator. Two and a half years ago, he'd been walking home from work when the lights went out. When they came back on, he was standing in the middle of Orario.

He'd recognized it immediately. The maze city and its Dungeon were famous enough, and the massive white tower at its center wasn't exactly subtle. One look at that thing and the situation clicked.

Knowing where he was, he moved fast. The details of those early days weren't worth revisiting in polite company. But through sheer stubbornness and a refusal to take no for an answer, luck found him. A generous benefactor helped him.

With income secured, he spent the next year grinding through the basics: language, literacy, how this world worked. Between shifts, he studied. It took over a year of stumbling through communication barriers and general culture shock before life started to feel manageable.

Once he had his footing, he leveraged his work connections to become an adventurer. Six months of Dungeon runs followed, slow and steady, building experience, honing technique, absorbing everything he could.

The "result" of those six months? The Dungeon had thoroughly beaten the ambition out of him.

Without the transmigrator card in his back pocket, with Stats this pathetic, he'd have checked out ages ago. Sit back, wait for the protagonist to show up and save the world, cheer from the sidelines. Honestly? Not the worst plan.

But like every proper isekai protagonist, Lucas came with a cheat. That was the only thing keeping him off the bench.

His System had a distinctly local flavor. No god required, no Familia blessing ceremony. The moment he'd first touched a Magic Stone after arriving, something supernatural and foreign, the whole thing just... woke up. Adapted itself to the local framework and became the Falna-style Status Panel he used now.

That wasn't even the important part. What made his pulse race was what the awakening gave him.

Three magic slots. Seven Skills. A starting loadout so stacked it would've made veterans weep. Lucas himself had stared at his own panel slack-jawed for days, too wired to sleep.

It was that ridiculous panel, paired with comically bad Stats and an obsessively cautious playstyle, that had carried him through the Dungeon's dangers and Orario's chaos to where he sat now.

A gust of evening wind rolled off the fountain, carrying a fine mist that cooled his face and snapped him back to the present. His hand paused on the interface. Focus returned.

The weight of the coin purse against his chest registered, solid and satisfying. His mouth curved. Hood up, he stood and set off at a brisk pace.

"Home."

---

For a veteran adventurer, Lucas's place was modest. A standalone house at the end of West Main Street in the Seventh District, right on the edge of the forest.

Typical Orario architecture: wood-and-stone construction, red brick, peaked roof. The small yard held a clothesline swaying in the breeze, a few potted plants, and one conspicuously lush money tree.

Key in the lock. Straight through the yard. Inside, shoes off, up the stairs to the bedroom. Door locked, curtains drawn. One smooth sequence.

He shrugged off the dusty cloak and heavy gear with a sigh of relief, dropped onto the edge of the bed, and reached underneath. From the very back, he dragged out a sturdy leather case. Flipped the lid. Arranged every coin he'd saved to date, today's earnings included, in neat rows.

One million, one thousand, and five valis.

"System. Open Status Panel."

The words came out low and deliberate, almost ceremonial. He pulled up the interface manually, savoring the moment.

His eyes swept hungrily over the shimmering Magic and Skill sections, lingered on the Development Ability that had no business existing at Level 1, and let the satisfaction wash through him.

Then his gaze hit the Stats.

The satisfaction evaporated.

"Everything I've accomplished, I earned through blood and sweat." He exhaled. "System. Allocate points."

The instant the command registered, the number beside Magic flickered inside its parenthetical, ticked upward, and locked in.

Stats:

- Magic: F389 (F389 → E489)

"Magic potential cap jumped from 389 to 489. A hundred points!" A fist pumped three times. "Finally broke through that wall. Training can actually move the needle again."

That plateau had tormented him for nearly two weeks, killing his appetite and his sleep.

If not for Heart of a Scholar nudging his other Stats up by tiny increments during that stretch, he'd have swallowed his pride and gone begging his benefactor for a loan.

But persistence paid off. Weeks of grinding every valis he could, and today, the Magic bottleneck cracked wide open.

The Stats on a Falna were the foundation of everything. Anyone who joined a Familia and underwent the blessing ritual got them: adventurers, healers, smiths, farmers, students, it didn't matter. The numbers defined you. And the four pillars of any Status Panel, Stats, Development Abilities, Magic, and Skills, were what separated the extraordinary from the expendable.
