One of the security guards stood nearby.
"Hasn't Alexander come back yet?" I asked.
Before the guard could answer, a familiar voice called out.
"Alicia."
I looked up.
Alexander was standing a short distance away.
Our eyes met.
He looked even more exhausted than he had that morning.
His shoulders were tense, and his eyes seemed darker than usual.
"You're back," I said softly.
"Mm."
He walked toward me.
As he drew closer, the scent of his expensive cologne mixed with cigarette smoke reached me.
Without thinking, I wrinkled my nose.
"Were you smoking?"
He seemed caught off guard and instinctively took a small step back.
I was about to say something else before I noticed several security guards nearby.
Instead, I simply opened the door.
He quietly followed me inside.
An awkward silence settled between us.
Finally, I broke it.
"Have you eaten?"
Something flickered across his eyes before he slowly shook his head.
I let out a quiet sigh.
"I'll warm your dinner."
