Chapter 14 - The Devotion of Nitail

In a small and peaceful village named Krishnapur, there lived a little boy named Nitai. The village was surrounded by green fields, trees, and small rivers. Nitai spent his days playing and wandering happily with his two best friends, Nidhu and Bolai.

Krishnapur was famous for one special place — a very large and beautiful temple of Lord Krishna. In fact, the village itself got its name from this temple. The temple bells rang every morning and evening, and people from nearby villages came there to offer prayers.

Among them, Nitai was the most devoted.

Every day without fail, Nitai went to the temple to pray. He folded his hands in front of the idol of Lord Krishna and spoke to Him like a friend.

Nitai loved Krishna deeply. He believed Krishna could hear him.

But there was one thing that troubled his innocent heart.

Krishna never replied.

Nitai would stand in front of the idol and say softly,

"Krishna, how are you? Will you talk to me today?"

But the temple remained silent.

Still, Nitai never stopped coming.

The Idea of Vrindavan

Nitai studied in a Gurukul in the same village. One day, the teachers were telling the students stories about Lord Krishna.

They said,

"Lord Krishna lives in Vrindavan."

Nitai listened carefully. The words stayed in his mind.

That day when he went to the temple again, he thought deeply.

"If Krishna lives in Vrindavan, maybe that is why He does not talk to me here. If I go to Vrindavan, then I will surely meet Him and talk to Him."

The idea filled his heart with excitement.

That evening he told his friends Nidhu and Bolai about his plan.

"I will go to Vrindavan to meet Krishna," Nitai said with great seriousness.

His friends burst out laughing.

"Nitai, do you even know where Vrindavan is?" Bolai said.

"It is very far from here," Nidhu added. "It will take almost three months of walking to reach there! And how will you go alone? What will you tell your parents? They will never allow you."

But Nitai had already made up his mind.

No matter what happened, he would go and meet Krishna.

The Journey Begins

Nitai prepared quietly.

He packed a small cloth bundle. Inside it he kept some muri (puffed rice), batasa (sugar sweets), a few fruits, and something very special.

It was a piece of cloth he had made himself, a small garment for Krishna.

He thought,

"When I meet Krishna, I will give this to Him."

One night, when everyone in the house was asleep, Nitai quietly left home.

Before leaving the village, he went to the Krishna temple one last time.

Standing before the idol, he folded his hands and said softly,

"Krishna, I am coming to meet you."

Then he started walking toward the unknown road that led to Vrindavan.

The Difficult Path

Nitai walked through forests, fields, and dusty roads.

One day passed.

Then two.

Then three.

Soon Nitai began to feel scared. The forest paths looked confusing, and he did not know which direction to go.

Suddenly he saw a man cutting wood.

Nitai ran to him and asked politely,

"Uncle, could you please tell me the way to Vrindavan? I think I have lost my way."

The man looked at the little boy and smiled in surprise.

"You are just a small child. Are you going to Vrindavan alone? Go back home. There are many wild animals in the forest. They might harm you."

But Nitai did not say anything.

He simply continued walking.

That day he could not walk very far. Most of his food was already finished.

At night, something frightening happened.

A huge bear began chasing him in the forest.

Terrified, Nitai ran as fast as he could and quickly climbed a tall tree. The bear stayed below the tree for a long time.

Nitai waited there all night, trembling with fear.

When morning finally came, the bear went away.

Nitai slowly climbed down and continued his journey.

New Friends and Endless Roads

After leaving the forest, Nitai reached a small village.

There he met another boy named Kanai, who was grazing cows in the field. Kanai lived with his mother; his father had passed away.

Nitai asked him,

"Can you tell me the road to Vrindavan?"

Kanai showed him the path and asked with concern,

"Are you really going alone?"

"Yes," Nitai replied with determination.

And so the journey continued.

Days passed.

Weeks passed.

Nearly two and a half months went by.

Nitai crossed rivers, villages, hills, and forests. Sometimes he ate fruits from trees, sometimes he drank water from rivers.

Many dangers came his way — snakes, crocodiles, tigers, bears, steep mountain paths, and many other hardships.

But somehow he survived.

By the end of the journey, Nitai was extremely tired and weak. His body ached, and his feet were sore.

At one moment he felt he could not walk anymore.

But the thought of meeting Krishna gave him strength.

Slowly, he stood up again and continued walking.

Arrival in Vrindavan

Finally, after great struggle, Nitai reached Vrindavan.

His heart was full of hope.

He thought,

"Now I will finally meet Krishna."

Nitai visited one temple after another, searching everywhere.

But he could not find Krishna.

The whole day passed.

Still no sign of Him.

Exhausted and heartbroken, Nitai sat under a tree and began to cry.

With tears in his eyes he said softly,

"O Krishna… I have come from so far away just to see you and speak to you. But I cannot find you anywhere. Where should I look for you?"

Krishna Appears

At that moment, a small boy came and stood beside him.

The boy asked gently,

"Are you looking for me?"

Nitai wiped his tears and looked up.

"Are you… Krishna?" he asked in surprise.

The little boy smiled.

"Yes."

Nitai's face lit up with joy.

"I have heard so many stories about you," Nitai said. "That is why I wanted to see you."

Krishna asked,

"What did you want to say to me?"

Nitai thought for a moment and replied honestly,

"I don't have anything special to say. I just wanted you to be my friend."

Then Nitai opened his small bundle and took out the cloth he had made.

"I brought this for you," he said shyly. "I made it myself. Do you like it?"

Krishna took the garment and smiled warmly.

"Yes, I like it very much. And Nitai, I have always been your friend."

Nitai looked confused.

"Then why didn't you answer when I talked to you in the temple?"

Krishna gently replied,

"I am everywhere — in the wind, the trees, the leaves, and in every living being. I was always with you, even in your friends."

Then Krishna said softly,

"Now you should go home. Your parents are very worried about you."

The Return Home

Nitai nodded.

"Alright Krishna, I will go home now. Please wear the cloth I made for you."

With a happy heart, Nitai began his journey back home.

This time it felt much faster.

Soon he reached his village again.

When Nitai's parents saw him, they were overwhelmed with joy. They had been worried and searching for him for so long.

Life slowly returned to normal.

Nitai once again played in the village fields with his friends.

But there was one secret.

Krishna was still there.

He played with Nitai, walked with him, and stayed beside him always.

But only Nitai could see Him.

And in this way, Nitai's pure devotion and faith became known to everyone.

Radhe Radhe.
