Chapter 6 - The Night of the Amavasya

There was a brave young man named Roni. From childhood, Roni was known for his courage and curiosity. While other boys were afraid of the dark or frightened by ghost stories, Roni was different. He was fascinated by the supernatural. In fact, his unusual profession was ghost hunting. He carried special machines designed to detect paranormal activity, and he loved exploring abandoned places, old houses, and lonely forests in search of spirits.

Roni was not alone in his adventures. He had four close friends who often joined him on his thrilling missions. Their names were Biltu, Mita, Viki, and Raya. Together, the five of them formed a small but determined ghost-hunting team.

One day, they heard rumors about a haunted forest on the outskirts of their village. The villagers claimed that strange sounds were heard there at night, and some even said they had seen shadows moving among the trees. According to local belief, the forest was especially dangerous during Amavasya—the night of the new moon—when the sky turned pitch black and darkness covered everything like a thick blanket.

Excited by the news, Roni decided that they must investigate. That very night, which happened to be Amavasya, the five friends gathered their equipment and headed toward the forest.

Entering the Forest

It was a moonless night. The sky was completely dark, and heavy clouds covered the stars. The forest looked terrifying. Tall trees stood like silent giants, their twisted branches stretching out like skeletal hands. The wind blew softly, making the leaves whisper in an eerie tone.

The group carried their ghost-detecting machine, cameras, flashlights, and protective items. Though Roni walked confidently at the front, Biltu was clearly nervous. Among them, Biltu was the most timid. He constantly looked around, startled by every small sound.

Mita, the only girl in the group, noticed Biltu's fear and decided to tease him a little. She quietly hid behind a tree and suddenly made a strange noise. When she jumped out from behind the tree, Biltu screamed loudly and ran straight toward Roni, nearly tripping over a root.

Everyone burst into laughter except Biltu, who was trembling. Roni calmed him down and reminded them to stay focused. This was not the time for jokes.

The Machine Detects Something

As they walked deeper into the forest, the darkness seemed to grow thicker. Even their flashlights struggled to pierce through it. Suddenly, the ghost-detecting machine in Roni's hand began to glow. A red light blinked rapidly, and the device started making a sharp beeping sound.

Instantly, everyone became alert.

Roni signaled them to stay quiet. Slowly and carefully, they followed the direction indicated by the machine. The beeping grew louder as they moved forward. Their hearts pounded in fear and excitement.

Then, through the gaps between the trees, they saw something unbelievable.

The Ghostly Gathering

In a small clearing inside the forest, dozens of ghosts were gathered together. They were dancing in a circle under the dark sky. In the center stood a terrifying scene—a female spirit, a Petni, and a Brahmadatta spirit seemed to be surrounded by other spirits as if some strange wedding ceremony was taking place.

The sight was horrifying.

Some ghosts had no hands. Some had no legs. Some had deep cuts and scars across their bodies. Their faces were pale and distorted. A few appeared to be eating what looked like severed animal and human heads. Blood seemed to stain the ground as they danced wildly.

The atmosphere was filled with strange chanting and laughter. It felt like a celebration of darkness itself.

Roni and Mita quickly hid behind thick bushes and began recording the entire scene with their camera. Their hands trembled, but they knew this footage would be extraordinary proof of the supernatural.

Biltu, however, was barely able to stand. His legs shook uncontrollably.

A Terrifying Mistake

Suddenly, disaster struck.

A forest rat bit Biltu's foot. In pain and shock, he screamed loudly, "Help! Help!"

The sound echoed through the forest.

In an instant, the dancing stopped. All the ghosts turned their heads toward the direction of the scream. Their hollow eyes fixed upon the hiding friends.

One of the ghosts let out a shrill cry, and immediately the entire group of spirits began floating toward them.

"Run!" Roni shouted.

The Chase

The five friends ran as fast as they could. Branches scratched their faces, and roots tried to trip their feet. Behind them, the ghosts chased silently but swiftly.

Just then, dawn was beginning to approach. A faint gray light appeared on the horizon, but the forest was still mostly dark.

Viki suddenly stumbled and fell hard onto the ground. Raya stopped immediately to help him up. The ghosts were now very close—just a few feet away.

Raya remembered something important. Around her neck hung a sacred amulet—a tabij given to her by her grandmother for protection against evil spirits.

As the ghosts reached toward them, the amulet began to glow faintly. The spirits recoiled as if burned by an invisible force. They hissed and pulled back, unable to touch Raya and those near her.

But Biltu was slightly behind.

One ghost stretched its long, twisted hand toward his neck, preparing to snap it.

At that very moment, Mita reacted quickly. She took out a small bottle of Ganga water she had brought for protection and splashed it toward the ghosts.

The holy water touched them, and they shrieked in pain. Smoke rose from their bodies as they retreated.

Escape at Dawn

Using this opportunity, the friends ran with all their strength toward the edge of the forest. The sky was growing brighter. The first rays of sunlight began to filter through the trees.

As daylight spread across the land, the ghosts slowly began to fade. One by one, they disappeared into thin air, dissolving like mist in the morning breeze.

Finally, the five friends burst out of the forest and collapsed onto the ground, breathing heavily. The sun had fully risen.

They were safe.

For several minutes, no one spoke. They were too shocked by what they had witnessed. The memory of the ghostly wedding, the terrifying chase, and the near-death experience remained vivid in their minds.

Roni looked at his camera. Miraculously, the recording was still there. They had captured everything.

But despite their success, something had changed inside them that night.

After That Night

The experience was far more terrifying than they had imagined. Though Roni was brave, even he admitted that some mysteries are better left undisturbed.

From that night onward, none of them ever returned to that forest. The memory of the Amavasya night remained a haunting reminder of the dangers that lurk in darkness.

It was truly a night of horror they would never forget.
