Chapter 5 - Crises

It didn't take him long to find a pack of wolves that happily devoured the mercenaries.

Only once he was sure that everything was gone did he make his way away from the crime scene.

Instead of going directly back to the city he circled around moving through the forest.

*Boom!!!*

Suddenly an explosion rocked his location throwing him off balance. Thankfully he was far enough that he wasn't pulverised immediately.

An explosion expelled a figure who struggled to keep his balance

*Puchi*

The figure spat out blood as he stared at the feline beast in front of him standing at 3 feet of height on all fours that followed him right out of the explosion.

The creature had fiery red fur and crimson eyes from the aura it was releasing passively Jensen knew he was fucked.

"What the hell?" Jensen cursed with blood trailing down the side of his lips.

He had spent an hour in the forest trying to circle around back to a path that wouldn't be linked to the crime scene.

Along the way he had been attacked by beast after beast and more times than not he had chosen to flee.

Thankfully most of the beast he met were rank 1 since he was in the outer part of the forest, but this was different.

Ignoring his injuries he turned around and dashed away from the battlefield.

He was huffing crazily as he tried to push his body beyond the limit.

While he had successfully broken through to mid-level 1 in the Mind Path, he hadn't made much progress in the other two paths.

For his body Path he didn't need special knowledge to know what to do but the same couldn't be said for his space path.

The battle behind him was spreading fast and he wasn't very sure he would make it.

Suddenly, as Jensen was running, he heard a loud roar just ahead of him which almost froze him in place, but he kept going.

He reached into the ring of the rich young boy, grabbed the healing potion and chugged it down before throwing the potion tube back in his spatial ring.

Realizing he couldn't keep running forever so he tried to find somewhere to hide.

Thankfully he soon found a dark cave, but he didn't dare walk in without checking it out.

Grabbing two stones he cautiously approached the cave; he kept he close look at his surrounding to ensuring that the battle wasn't too close yet.

Seeing that the fight was still a while away, he threw the first stone in and immediately ducked behind a tree.

He didn't see any thing come out from the cave but from the same spot he threw the second stone.

After waiting for almost a minute and nothing happened, Jensen finally concluded that the cave was safe.

He didn't think any beast would be asleep with the battle happening close by.

The noise had been loud with shockwave spreading around, any normal creature would have run or attacked by now.

No longer wasting any time, Jensen stepped into the cave.

At first, he expected it to be small but as he walked deeper, he realized that was not the case.

The tunnel stretched far ahead into darkness.

Out of curiosity, and also because he needed to get further from the battle, he continued moving forward.

A strange scent entered his nose. It was not the smell of blood or beasts. It was something calm.

Cold and almost sweet.

As his eyes adjusted, he began to see objects scattered along the path.

Items that gave off faint light and plants with unusual shapes and unique scents.

Small metal boxes half-buried in dust.

Treasures.

Although he could not tell what they were exactly, he did not hesitate. One by one, he placed them into his two spatial rings.

Further along the path, he even found several abandoned spatial rings lying on the ground.

That made him pause for a second.

'Why are all these treasures lying around?'

Still, he picked them up and used them to store even more treasures.

Then suddenly, he stopped.

Something didn't feel right.

He stood still for a long moment, thinking carefully. The cave was too quiet, and everything came a little too easily for his liking.

But after considering it, he was not completely sure. There was no clear danger.

So, he continued walking.

After a while, the feeling returned. Stronger this time.

And then it clicked, 'This path is too long for the mountain.'

He had been running for more than an hour now. Only stopping to rest or to collect treasures.

The mountain outside was not large enough to contain such depth.

Not only did he not turn once, neither did the path ascend nor descend, it just went straight.

Now he understood, this was not normal space.

His expression turned serious.

He immediately tried to break free from whatever this was. His energy flared outward.

He focused fully on his psychic abilities, pushing his mind against the invisible surroundings.

The air around him trembled.

The tunnel flickered.

The walls distorted like a reflection in broken water.

Then a calm ancient voice echoed all around him.

"Congratulation. You have successfully completed the trial to the Common Vampyre Legacy."

The cave shattered like glass and his surroundings dissolved instantly.

The treasures vanished and even the tunnel disappeared. The ground beneath his feet turned into white light.

When everything settled, Jensen found himself standing alone in an endless white space.

There was no sky and he couldn't see anything in any direction.

Only silence.

For the first time since entering the cave, Jensen did not move immediately.

"Do you wish to continue the trial or exit with a reward of one drop of Common Vampyre Blood Essence?"
