last train

11:45 PM.

A small, almost forgotten station on the Burdwan line — Dhaneshwarpur.

Only a single yellow light glowed on the platform. Fog surrounded everything. The sound of crickets echoed through the silence.

Amit was returning late from work. He had missed his local train. The stationmaster said,

"There is one more train… the last train. But not everyone boards it."

Amit laughed and replied,

"Since when do trains choose their passengers?"

The stationmaster gave no answer.

Exactly at midnight, the whistle of a train was heard from afar.

But something felt strange —

the train was arriving without any lights.

Slowly, an old black train entered the platform. The doors opened on their own.

There wasn't a single passenger inside.

"Next station… Final Destination."

Amit was confused. There was no station with that name!

The train slowly stopped.

As the doors opened, he saw countless people standing in the fog outside — but none of them had faces.

The old man stood up.

He said,

"Those who never reached anywhere in life… get down here."

Terrified, Amit said,

"I won't get off!"

The old man replied calmly—

"But you already did…"

Amit suddenly looked at himself.

His body was still sitting on the seat… motionless.

A news notification glowed on his phone screen—

"Young man dies in train accident near Dhaneshwarpur station."

The train began moving again.

Amit realized —

he hadn't boarded a train going home.

He had boarded the Last Train.

A whistle echoed in the distance.

And somewhere, another new passenger waited on a platform…
