Almost half an hour after the blast at Joseph's house, the fire brigade finally arrived. The flames were brought under control, and after searching through the wreckage, they recovered a body from inside the house.
A few hours later, the police arrived and began their investigation. Soon, they reached Derrick's house and started questioning the people who had seen Joseph earlier that day.
"So, you both met Joseph before he died?"
One of the two policemen, Jack Turner, asked the question while looking at Alon and Lucas, who were sitting nervously on the sofa in front of them.
"Yes, sir," Lucas replied. "We met him a few hours ago. We just talked to him for a bit, that's all."
After that, both Alon and Lucas explained everything that had happened during their short meeting with Joseph.
When they finished, the other police officer, Ryan Carter, spoke.
"Alright. That's enough for now. We'll contact you again if we need anything else."
With that, the two officers left the house and headed back toward the police station.
Inside the car, Ryan stared out the window, lost in thought.
Who could have killed him? he wondered. Was it really an accident… or was it murder? Nothing seems to be missing from the house. If it wasn't a robbery… then what was the reason? Or was it simply an accident?
