Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Refusing to Save

Captain Li was beyond irritated and shot He Shian a dark look. "How the hell should I know? A bunch of little bastards who only know how to cause trouble for me."

Just then, Feng He ran over from behind, grabbed Lin Jingjing's hand, and immediately checked her pulse.

After checking her pulse, she examined Lin Jingjing's eyes, and her voice started to break.

"Sister Lin's life force is incredibly weak. She's not going to hold on."

She looked at Shi Feng, tears welling in her eyes. "What do we do? Are we going to lose Sister Lin again?"

Seeing her reaction, Captain Li, who was holding Lin Jingjing, raised a hand to feel for a pulse in her neck.

He found that her heartbeat was indeed faint. If she wasn't treated soon, she would really die.

Captain Li looked at He Shian and asked, "Do you have a Recovery Potion?"

Although He Shian didn't understand how she knew the person was dying just from a touch to the wrist, he took one out and handed it to Captain Li when asked.

After the Recovery Potion was poured into Lin Jingjing's mouth, Feng He reached out and checked her pulse again.

Discovering that the once-feeble pulse was now slowly strengthening, she turned and threw her arms around Shi Feng. "She's alive! She's alive! This potion is fucking incredible."

They were very close to the frontline encampment, so the four of them carried the unconscious Lin Jingjing over.

After entering the camp and sending Lin Jingjing to the medical department, Captain Li turned to the other two and started losing his temper.

Seeing Captain Li's thunderous expression, He Shian immediately stood up. "Captain Li, I have some things to attend to, so I'll be heading back now."

"Mm," Captain Li grunted. He Shian quickly left, leaving only the two of them and Lin Jingjing in the hospital room.

Two flatbed hovercraft were parked nearby. The pair stood side by side, each giving one a glance.

With their hands clasped behind their backs, they didn't dare to look Captain Li in the eye.

"You three useless wastes! I ask you to do one simple thing, and you just have to go and make a huge scene! Are you trying to kill me with anger?"

Captain Li couldn't figure it out. He'd been in the logistics department for a long time, and plenty of people had come and gone.

But he'd never seen anyone who could stir up so much trouble.

And all three of them were Grade D!

For three Grade Ds to cause such a commotion... it was truly unbelievable!

"What are you looking at? Is there someone over there, or a ghost?!" Captain Li continued to yell. "Write me a three-thousand-word self-criticism report! Handwritten!"

"And bring it to me tonight!"

"Now, the two of you, get the hell out and run twenty laps around the training field!" Captain Li didn't want to see their guilty expressions; it only made him more irritated. If they had higher Spiritual Power Levels, he could have just given them a good beating.

But as it was, all three were Grade Ds. One punch, and they'd have to be dragged out and buried.

"We really have to run twenty laps?" Shi Feng asked cautiously. The field outside was pretty big; twenty laps would take half their lives.

"Twenty-five."

Feng He quickly grabbed his arm. "We're going, we're going right now."

Once outside the room, she smacked Shi Feng on the forehead. "That's what you get for talking back! Five extra laps!"

"I didn't know he'd add more," Shi Feng said defensively. He had been trying to get the number reduced.

Gazing at the enormous field, they both sighed. "Let's run."

They ran one after the other around the field. After five laps, they were getting tired.

At the thought of another twenty laps to go, Feng He smacked Shi Feng on the back.

She cursed through gritted teeth, "This is because of your big mouth! We still have twenty laps to go!"

"Yes, yes, you're right, Miss Feng. It's all my fault," Shi Feng was quick to admit.

The main reason was Feng He's fiancé. In his past life, the moment that guy saw Feng He being wronged in any way, he would go into full-on overprotective-husband mode.

Once, Shi Feng had merely roped Feng He into a risky money-making scheme. When her fiancé found out, he'd dragged Shi Feng into the military for a bout of insane training.

The pain and exhaustion from that time were still fresh in his mind. Now, Shi Feng had learned to apologize preemptively. After all, she had powerful backing.

After apologizing, he added, "Let's just get back to running."

"We still have twenty laps left."

Hearing that number just made Feng He more irritated. "Ugh, I guess we have no choice but to run."

"I'll never understand it. I'm a surgeon, and you're a weapons manufacturer. Why are two weaklings like us always being dragged out for this insane training?" Feng He just couldn't figure it out.

It was like this in her last life, and it was the same in this one.

"I feel like doing some shooting," Shi Feng, who was running ahead, said with a sigh as he stretched out a hand and looked at his palm.

Feng He shot him down without mercy. "Your aim will be just as bad no matter how much you practice."

"I'd be doing it to blow off steam."

The two bickered as they ran, and the lap count slowly ticked down.

Lying in her hospital bed, Lin Jingjing felt as if she were adrift in darkness, surrounded by deafening sounds.

The chirping of insects, the calls of birds, the slithering of snakes, the gnawing of predators, the shouting of arguments, the crashing of impacts...

Listening to these sounds, Lin Jingjing felt as if her head and ears were about to explode.

She raised her hands to cover her ears, but it did nothing to block them out.

In the darkness, Lin Jingjing huddled on the ground in agony, crying out, "Quiet! Be quiet!"

"All of you, just be quiet!"

But no matter how much she yelled, it was useless. Tears of anguish streamed down Lin Jingjing's face.

As she lay in the hospital bed, she kept muttering for quiet, her entire body writhing in resistance.

She thrashed about so much that if Captain Li hadn't noticed in time and held her down, she would have fallen off the bed.

Calling for a doctor, Captain Li yelled at the man in the white coat, "What's wrong with her? She won't stop moving."

The doctor came over to examine her but couldn't find anything wrong.

"She might have suffered some sort of mental shock. I'll give her a sedative," the doctor said before finding a syringe and injecting the struggling Lin Jingjing.

But even after the sedative, Lin Jingjing continued to struggle. "Your medicine isn't working! She's not calming down at all!" Captain Li grew more frantic.

It was already hard enough for the people of B6 Star to survive these days. She had joined the First Corps just to stay alive; it would be a real shame for her to die now.

Even more so at such a young age.

"Do something, quick! We can't just let her keep going on like this!" Captain Li roared.

Tired of being yelled at, the doctor became impatient. He put down the syringe, flicked his sleeve in annoyance, and turned away. Glancing back at Captain Li from the corner of his eye, he said, "She's just a Grade D. If she dies, she dies. Why are you in such a hurry, Captain Li?"

"If she dies, it's one less mouth to feed. What are you getting so worked up about? It's the end of my shift. I'm going to get some rest." Without a backward glance, he walked off.

Watching the doctor's retreating back, Captain Li cursed, "Son of a bitch. Leaving someone to die."

He turned his attention back to Lin Jingjing, who was still struggling and muttering for quiet.

Captain Li had no choice but to call the other two back from the training field.

The two of them, still panting and out of breath, had barely returned when they heard Captain Li say, "What in the world is wrong with her? She keeps struggling and yelling 'quiet' or something."

As he spoke, he looked toward Feng He. "Feng He, come and take a look."
