Chapter 6 - Chapter 7: Brawl

Students are young and hot-headed, so friction is common.

Even in regular high schools, students fight all the time, let alone at a Xianmen High School.

The words had barely left his mouth when Li Xiaoshuang shot out of the office.

Chen Che followed him out and saw several students from another class in the hallway, ganging up on Huang Zhongfei with punches and kicks. One of them was holding a stool, howling from the back:

"Get him!"

Although Huang Zhongfei had reached the Qi Refining Fifth Layer, he was losing ground against this group of students who specialized in hair-pulling, stool-swinging, and low blows.

In the chaos, he took a punch to his right eye and immediately saw stars.

Overwhelmed by the sharp pain, he shoved through the crowd and fled toward the classroom. But the students from the other class refused to give up and charged right into the room after him.

CRASH!

Huang Zhongfei swiped his hand, and his True Essence surged, sweeping up books from a nearby desk and sending them flying at his opponents in an overwhelming barrage.

"My books!"

A student wailed.

The attackers had just batted the books aside when Huang Zhongfei activated his Sword Control Technique. The wailing student could only watch in horror as his own desk lifted into the air and flew toward the attackers, only to be shattered by a single punch. Then, two more desks followed.

In an instant, the entire classroom descended into chaos.

Many of the girls retreated in fear.

The commotion woke a sleeping Lin Yi. He rubbed his eyes in shock, and upon seeing Qi Fei's desk flying through the air, he thought he had to be dreaming.

"Fuck, you can use the Sword Control Technique like that?"

Qi Fengzhu was stunned on the spot.

"Chen Che!"

Li Xiaoshuang stood with his hands behind his back, his brow furrowing deeper as he watched the students who weren't stepping in to help.

"Get them out of here!"

"Okay."

The word had barely left his lips.

Chen Che had already launched himself forward. Like an arrow loosed from a bow, he shot into the classroom and appeared directly in front of the student with the stool. He stopped short, twisted his body, and his right leg whipped out, sweeping toward his target like a powerful lash!

Xianmen First Middle School didn't just teach Magic; it also had Martial Arts Class.

The student reacted quickly, swinging the stool in a horizontal arc almost at the same time.

"CRACK!"

With a sharp crack, the stool shattered on the spot, exploding into a shower of wood splinters. The student was sent flying like a straw doll, slamming hard against the wall.

"There's another one!"

A student, sensing movement behind him, shouted a warning.

However.

After throwing the kick, Chen Che had already raised his hand. His fingers clamped down on the shouter's forehead, and he slammed the boy's head toward the ground. He then rammed his body into another student who was charging forward, sending him flying.

Finally, he flipped his hands up in a blocking motion, deflecting the last student's punch while simultaneously kicking out.

"BANG! BANG! BANG!"

In an instant.

The four students who had been ganging up on Huang Zhongfei were all sent flying backward.

But they still looked defiant. Then, they suddenly caught sight of Li Xiaoshuang standing there with a deadpan expression. Their faces changed instantly, and they stood obediently with their hands at their sides, as meek as could be.

"Go on, fight. Why'd you stop?"

Li Xiaoshuang snorted, turning to Huang Zhongfei.

"What happened?"

Huang Zhongfei answered honestly, "He stepped on my foot. I told him to apologize, but he wouldn't, so we started fighting."

"Why didn't you apologize?"

Li Xiaoshuang narrowed his eyes. Chen Che glanced over and saw the students from the other class hanging their heads, none of them daring to speak.

Finally, the leader of the group stepped forward and bowed.

"...I'm sorry!"

"Get out!"

Li Xiaoshuang snorted coldly.

After the bell rang, Li Xiaoshuang didn't start the lesson right away. Instead, he addressed the incident with the class.

"I'm furious. Someone came to our class to start trouble, and so many of you just stood by and watched the show. There's no unity at all! When I was in high school, if anyone dared to cause trouble in our classroom, they would have been beaten out with sticks."

"The Martial Cultivation Committee Member did the right thing by notifying a teacher immediately. But what if I wasn't in the office? What if you were outside and encountered a Demon Beast, or were attacked by someone else? Would you just stand by and do nothing then?"

Li Xiaoshuang's voice was resonant, and his last few sentences were deafening.

"My rule is this: don't go looking for trouble. But if someone else starts trouble with you, you don't have to be polite."

'Old Li is pretty protective of his own.'

Chen Che's ears were ringing, and he was a little surprised.

"Also, I want to commend student Huang Zhongfei. Even though you lost the fight, your grasp of the Sword Control Technique is good. You were able to grasp the underlying principle and apply it creatively. It's clear you've been putting in effort outside of class. I hope everyone can learn from him."

After speaking, he took the lead and began to applaud.

The classroom immediately filled with applause.

Huang Zhongfei was a bit dumbfounded.

He thought he was going to be reprimanded, but instead he was being praised. He scratched his head, a little embarrassed.

"However, your practical combat experience is too poor. When your opponents don't fight by the rules, you don't know how to handle it. You need more training. Besides Magic, Cultivators also need a certain degree of close-combat capability. After class, you can ask Chen Che for some pointers."

Li Xiaoshuang's praise made many of the students turn to look at Chen Che.

After all.

Huang Zhongfei's comprehensive strength, ranked third in the class, wasn't bad at all.

And the only two in the entire class above him were one student with an Earth Spirit Root and another who was a rich kid.

Lin Yi's eyes were red with envy. Unfortunately, he didn't have the strength to be in the spotlight like that.

Chen Che, however, was indifferent.

The atmosphere in Yunzhou was terrible. A single disagreement between Cultivators could lead to drawn blades. Once a fight started, it was to the death. Although his Cultivation wasn't high, he had already been through several life-or-death battles. Teaching a lesson to a few "flowers in a greenhouse" was a piece of cake.

"I have to ask *him* for pointers?"

Huang Zhongfei was still unconvinced. He muttered to his deskmate:

"My Cultivation is higher than his. I was just holding back before. Otherwise, those guys would've been down in no time! Next time he steps on my foot, I'll beat him so bad he'll call me daddy!"

"Alright, open your books. Let's continue our lecture on the 'Sword Control Technique'."

After Li Xiaoshuang finished speaking, the sound of flipping pages filled the room again.

Even though Chen Che had already learned the Sword Control Technique, he still opened his book to follow the teacher's train of thought and fill in any gaps in his knowledge.

The second period was Martial Arts Class.

The martial arts teacher was a big, brawny man named Wei He, a new teacher who had just graduated from a P.E. teachers' college. There's a certain type of student with poor Spiritual Roots but exceptional physical talent. They can switch to becoming Body Cultivators and still have a chance to get into a related Daoist School later on.

The class content consisted of weighted runs and a set of radio exercises similar to a form of Ancient Yoga.

"Follow my lead!"

Wei He was particularly strict.

He half-squatted, his posture like a galloping stallion. On the field, the students all followed suit, continuously shifting into the same pose.

Hiss—

When they switched to the sixth pose, one resembling an ape, Chen Che felt a sharp pain in the fascia under his arms.

"Ah!"

"Hiss, that hurts!"

A wave of suppressed cries of pain came from the crowd of students.

This was the "Sixty-Third Set of Radio Exercises," which had been continuously improved by the Immortal Sect. It incorporated Body Refining Techniques from Ancient Martial Arts, the Buddhist Sect, and the Daoist Sect. Not only did it stretch the muscles and tendons to improve flexibility, but it also had the effect of tempering one's Qi and Blood.

The reason it hurt was that these muscles had never been exercised before.

Students are experts at making the best of a bad situation.

Ye Youwei and the other girls in the class were also following Wei He's movements. Certain poses accentuated their full curves, giving many of the boys something to sneak glances at to pass the time.

After an hour and a half of exercise, many felt their arms and legs turn to jelly.

After eating lunch in the school cafeteria, Chen Che went straight back to his desk for a nap. Ever since he started traveling between two worlds, he made sure to get plenty of sleep each day.

After all, his mind and body hadn't yet reached the point where they could run nonstop without rest.

During the lunch break, however, the students were quite active. Some ran off to surf the web, while others stayed in the classroom to scroll on their phones or read novels.

He was dozing off.

Suddenly, Qi Fengzhu, who sat in front of him, started cursing. Noticing he'd woken Chen Che, he quickly apologized before explaining:

"I was just watching a short video, and it totally disgusted me."

"What video?"

"It's a short story. The protagonist wipes out a group of utterly evil Demon Cultivators who were raping and pillaging, but then finds a six-year-old child among them and lets him go out of soft-heartedness. Turns out, eighteen years later, the kid comes back for revenge, kills the protagonist's entire family, and then kills the protagonist."

As he said this, Qi Fengzhu was grinding his teeth in frustration.

The more satisfying the first part of the story was, the more infuriating the ending was.

"So stupid. A person like that doesn't deserve to be the protagonist."

As the two were talking, Lin Yi, who had been reading a novel, chimed in. Seeing them both look at him, he said leisurely:

"If it were me, I might have offered the kid a piece of candy and a knife, and let him choose. If he chose the knife, it would prove he's the type to hold a grudge. He absolutely could not be left alive."

Qi Fengzhu thought that was a good idea and followed Lin Yi's line of thought. "And if he chooses the candy, you let him go?"

"No."

Lin Yi shook his head and smiled. "If he chooses the candy, it means he's meticulous and harbors ill intentions. It's highly likely he's just feigning weakness to make me lower my guard. So, he absolutely cannot be left alive either! Old Chen, am I right?"

Chen Che thought about it seriously. "Right!"
