Her voice was soft and sweet as she whispered, "Alaric, I love you."
She leaned in and kissed his cheek. This double dose of sweetness was even more devastating than her bold kiss from before.
Just as he was about to return the favor, a child holding a basket of flowers walked up to them. "Mister..."
Alaric Davenport frowned, annoyed at the interruption. He turned to see who was calling him and saw a plainly dressed girl holding a flower basket.
The little girl looked so pitifully sweet that he had to swallow his anger. "What is it?"
"Handsome mister, can you buy some flowers for the pretty lady?"
Alaric Davenport raised an eyebrow, pulled out his wallet, and casually plucked out a bill for the little girl. He then hung the flower basket on Little Kenyon's stroller.
But the little girl didn't leave. She looked conflicted.
She turned her head and saw a woman, then called out, "Mama, the handsome mister bought all the flowers, but I don't have change for him."
