When she came downstairs, Dexter Davenport had already left for the corporation, and Yasmine Kimball was nowhere to be seen. Only Julian Davenport was there, sitting in his seat. When he saw her come downstairs, a smarmy grin spread across his face. "Sister-in-law, you're awake? Sleep well last night?"
Rosalind Lowell found his words grating. 'Is he reprimanding me? Suggesting I'm sleeping soundly while my husband's life hangs in the balance?'
"I didn't mean anything by it, Sister-in-law. I'm just worried about you."
"Thank you for your concern," Rosalind Lowell replied courteously.
Julian Davenport stared at her. "Sister-in-law, now that my brother is gone... would you be with me? You'd still be Mrs. Davenport, you know."
"That's not something to joke about, Julian." Rosalind was picking at a lavish breakfast, but the food was tasteless to her.
"I'm not joking. I've been smitten with you since the first time we met. My parents spoil me rotten; if I ask, they'll agree to it."
