The third test was for agility: weaving through a series of posts.
The goal was to run from one end of the plum blossom posts to the other. The distance wasn't great, but it wasn't a straight line. One had to weave back and forth between the wooden posts in a serpentine pattern.
"You must be a little tired, right? Rest for a bit first."
The head disciple said considerately to Zhao Lin, then called over a slender young man and instructed, "Xiaofan, run it once to show him."
"You got it!"
The young man named Xiaofan acknowledged the order, walked to the front of the plum blossom posts, held his breath, and zipped through them. He was like a butterfly flitting through flowers, completing the entire course in just a few breaths.
"So fast!" Zhao Lin praised.
It reminded him of a dog agility competition he had once seen, with border collies weaving through poles.
