Brooke Morrison came out of the kitchen, interrupting the conversation between the grandfather and granddaughter. "Dad, don't worry about the kids. Let them decide what kind of life they want to live. Come on, wash up. Dinner's ready."
Behind Edison Holden's back, Ivy Holden gave Brooke Morrison a grateful fist-to-palm salute, then took the opportunity to say, "I'm leaving after dinner. I have a lot to do, and it's just not convenient living here."
"What? You've only been here a few days and you're moving out again?"
Ivy Holden quickly looped her arm through her grandfather's and said, "Oh, Grandpa, it's just that I'm busy these next few days and don't want to commute. I'll come back and keep you company once I'm done with everything."
As she ladled soup, Brooke Morrison said, "By the way, Jensen called this afternoon. He said if you were coming back to get your things, you should take his back with you as well."
"Okay, no problem," Ivy Holden readily agreed.
