Shi Li never had any intention of leading them on.
Faced with Shi Li's firm and direct refusal, Ru Jin fell silent.
He didn't agree, nor did he try to defend himself.
He knew clearly that in their current situation, he and Rui Xin were definitely not good enough for Shi Li.
You could even say they would be a burden.
They couldn't devise a plan for Shi Li in the face of such danger, instead of just standing by helplessly.
"I understand. I won't continue to pester you anymore."
"I'll talk to Rui Xin, too." In the end, Ru Jin finally spoke, deciding to let go of this obsession.

So he had no choice but to try and negotiate with Shi Li.
