The thug had already pulled a folding knife from his jacket, preparing to stab Zhang Ci Hao. But when he saw the person in front of him had switched to Deng Yuyuan, he instinctively swung the knife upward and to the side.
The trajectory of that blade...
Deng Yuyuan's pupils shrank. It was aimed right at Chu Tiankuo. At that very moment, he was leaning toward her, trying to shield her.
She screamed internally, "Frail scholars shouldn't try to play bodyguard, AHHHH!"
Unlike Deng Yuyuan and Zhang Ci Hao, Chu Tiankuo had never actually been in a life-or-death street fight. His reaction time was simply too slow. Even though Deng Yuyuan shoved him out of the way, the blade still slashed across his face. Blood poured out instantly as the flesh peeled back, though thankfully, the cut wasn't deep enough to hit the bone.
"AAAH—" Chu Tiankuo let out a bloodcurdling scream, clutching his face.
