Chapter 3 - The tracker

There is no time for Elizabeth to recover from her shock, as her eyes do not leave the record that was shattered in front of her eyes into scattered pieces, to be surprised by her father carrying her mother outside like a wounded, fragile deer__

"Wait!! Where are you going? I'll go with you!" she screams, trying to catch up with him as fast as she can.

Her eyes don't leave her mother, whose forehead is dripping with blood on the cold pavement.

"I'll go to the hospital, you go to your aunt," Henry tells her quickly... but she insists on stopping him and following him. "No, what!! I'll go with you," which makes her father stop for a few seconds and turn to her...

"NO Elizabeth, the situation is not safe," he shouted at her loudly with an annoyed expression.

Elizabeth stopped for a few seconds trying to comprehend what he said. "Wait!!" And before she could even refuse, her father got into his car with his wife.

The sound of the wheels hitting the asphalt reached the girl who watched the car disappear with wide her eyes...

"WHAT THE! Why!" she mutters to herself with a heart filled with fear and suspicion, her eyes falling on her hands stained with a few drops of blood stuck to them like dark red ink.

She doesn't know how anger blinded her in such short moments. 'The situation could have really been worse,' she thinks to herself Trying to catch her breath with difficulty as her emotions swirled, the moment her foot hits the street to walk .

The sun begins to set, announcing its imminent departure on Elizabeth's face, who swears she has been hearing the sound of wheels behind her for a while now.

She walks faster, searching around for any taxi, and the silent street welcomes her like a mocking fate. "Maybe I'm imagining it," but it seems that her senses have a different opinion, screaming for her to run, and indeed she begins to walk faster and faster...

The sound of car engines behind her starts, surrounding her ears, cutting off doubt with certainty like a sword falling on the head, and only then does Elizabeth run, trying to enter any café, and as soon as her hand touches the door handle..

A man's voice breaks the silence, along with the courage of the girl who froze in place.

"Hey! Wait, miss!!" The sound of the car door opening and closing forcefully mixed with the sound of footsteps approaching her directly.

Elizabeth slowly looked behind her, and her eyes fell on a police car and the huge shadow of a man with a beard and mustache, in neat clothes, who seemed to be taking care of himself.

He smiled slowly at her. "Hello, Miss. I am Detective Jack Edward." He raised his hand to shake hers.

Elizabeth raises her eyebrow, "What!!" She looks at him intently, not believing him. She continues firmly, "Detective!! Show me..." Before she can finish her sentence, Jack raises his investigation badge right in front of her face.

Confusion slowly draws her more. She looks at him, the smile not leaving his face, which makes her start to feel as if he is mocking her.

"What did I even do!" she says sharply, her eyes not leaving the man's unshakable face, but his smile widens. "Nothing, young lady. I just want to ask you a few questions."

Suddenly, he grabs her hand to shake it. "Then why don't we go? Don't worry, Police Clara will be with us." Elizabeth can't even believe what he's done.

For some reason, she feels like a mouse in front of a cat. For a moment, it seems as if he isn't even asking her, but rather telling her what will happen.

Her eyes fall on an indistinct shadow inside the car. It seems to be really police woman waiting inside the car, , she's in the driver's seat look at them ...

Elizabeth frowned in annoyance and pulled her hand away. Nothing about what was happening pleased her. "I'll tell my aunt first, sir!" She said in a sharp voice, as if she were talking to a wall that wouldn't budge no matter how hard she tried to appear steady, like an exposed playing cards .

Jack smiles cheerfully, "Sure, you can tell her while we're in the car." He points his finger at the police car to follow him inside. "Come on then, we're going to the police station." He walks in front of her immediately without even leaving a question open for her to ask. .

The wind hits Elizabeth's face as if it is the only thing that confirms to her that everything is not a dream but rather a reality that hits her hard as she finally walks to the car, looking out the window...

To meet a completely black cat watching her as if it is the only witness with curiosity, its face tilts without leaving te girl's eyes, and thus the car takes off.
