Chapter 2 - I Just Find it Funny

"Nothing. Just that you were out there dreaming about a trillion people, and I couldn't make the list." She said while standing up, her movements sharp as she walked off, clearly enraged. I was left sitting there, speechless, watching her disappear around the corner without so much as a backward glance.

"It was just a dream, and it's not like we were talking or anything. I think it was a race." I said, not knowing why I even cared enough to explain myself. This was just a one-night hook-up. There was no reason for me to be chasing after her feelings like this.

"You're right, I'm just overreacting." She said with a bright smile that appeared so quickly it almost gave me whiplash. I nodded lightly, deciding not to question it, and headed off to take a shower. But as I stepped out of the bath, still dripping wet, I froze—she was standing right there in the doorway, holding my clothes, as if she had been waiting the entire time.

"So, did anyone in this dream of yours catch your attention?" She asked with a smile, handing me a towel.

"Not really… I was given the chance to make any wish I wanted." I said lazily, which made her smile brighten as she passed me my clothing and headed off without another word. The whole thing weirded me out, but I shook it off, went on to brush my teeth, got dressed, and stepped out.

"Let's go get something to eat before I head back home." She said with a smile, since she had to catch her flight home today. I nodded and went to grab my keys from the counter. She packed up the suitcase she'd brought with her, which she tossed into the back of my Porsche once we got outside.

On top of that, the stuff she'd bought yesterday when I had taken her shopping got loaded in as well. She had picked up a good amount of things for cultivation—herbs, supplements, a few low-grade spirit stones—since she had the talent for it, but lacked the resources to really push forward on her own.

Every inch of my car had been customized from the ground up, making it one of, if not the fastest, car in the city. The engine alone had been rebuilt twice, and the frame was reinforced to handle the kind of speed that would tear a stock model apart. Sadly, none of that mattered much. I was a cripple. Not that I had been born with something physically wrong with me—my body was fine, healthy even—but because I wasn't able to cultivate.

Due to that, I was stuck within the limits of a normal human, which meant I couldn't push the car anywhere close to what it was built for. Hell, if I went too fast, the G-force alone would crush my organs and kill me before I even had the chance to hit the brakes.

Anyways, I went on to start the car, and it came to life with a powerful roar that vibrated through the seat and into my bones. I smirked at that; be it in my past life or this one, I had always been in love with old-school cars. Those electric models were nice and all, smooth and quiet, but they were missing this—the roar, the rumble, the pride of having a powerful engine that made itself known to the world the second you turned the key.

As soon as she got in and pulled the door shut, I drove off toward a drive-through not too far from the apartment, one that I had come to like over the past few months. Although my car had an auto-drive feature that could handle the route on its own, I wanted to drive. It kept my hands busy and gave me a reason to avoid making conversation.

"So… what did you wish for?" She asked softly.

"What?" I asked, looking over at her while we sat waiting for our turn in line at the drive-thru.

"The dream, you said you had 2 wishes… what did you wish for?" She asked with a look of expectation, her eyes locked onto mine like she wasn't planning on letting this go.

"I'm not going to answer that," I said calmly, realizing that anything I said, she would twist into something she didn't like. Even if I tried to lie, she was a powerful cultivator who could see through all of my bullshit without even trying.

"It was just a dream, you don't have to be all weird about it." She laughed, clearly amused by how guarded I was being over something so small.

"Okay." Seeing that she was willing to drop the topic, I just nodded and looked up ahead at the line of cars in front of us.

"I just found it funny, you said I was the girl of your dream. But I was the furthest thing from your dreams." She said with a laugh, and I felt my lips twitch.

Honestly, if I had known she was a virgin before all of this, I would have been a lot more careful in how I texted her and flew her out. The whole situation would have been handled differently. Luckily, I was saved as we were next in line. I pulled up to the speaker and rolled down the window.

"I would have a hotcake, along with the Sausage, Egg & Cheese hotcake. Can I also get a chocolate milkshake?" She asked, and my eyebrow raised slightly. She could eat all of that and not gain a pound.

Yeah, she was thick—that ass was something I couldn't keep my hands off of, and her breasts were large, but not so large that they got in her way. She had the kind of body that made you look twice, then a third time just to be sure.

"Is that all?" The worker asked, and instantly, she turned her head and looked at me, expecting me to order something.

"I will get a cup of water," I ordered lazily while pulling out a card to pay. Instantly, the air inside the car turned cold—not figuratively, but actually, physically cold, like someone had cranked the AC to full blast in the dead of winter. I looked around in alarm, but the only thing I saw was her looking at me with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. Not even close.

"Order something." She said, and the chill in her voice matched the temperature. I didn't even know what I had done wrong. Was I not allowed to get water...?

"I-I'm not hungry," I said softly.

"So, I'm fat? Is this why you were dreaming of other people?" She asked, and I had no words. Absolutely none.

"Order something now." She said with a warning look that made it clear this wasn't a request. She was, of course, upset. Food didn't taste good eating alone, but with someone else, it tasted a hundred times better… and then there was the obvious fact that she'd look like a glutton ordering all of that while I sat there with nothing but a cup of water.

"On top of that water, can I get 2 hotcakes?" I ordered, and the person on the other side must have felt the tension bleeding through the speaker, because they placed the order with a shaking voice before quickly asking us to pull forward to the window.

I paid without a word, and within a few minutes, we had our meals. She wasted no time, unpacking everything on her lap and happily going on to try to feed me, holding a forkful of hotcake up to my mouth like I was a child.

I wasn't hungry—I never ate breakfast—but I sensed deep in my gut that she would actually kill me if I refused, so I ate while steering with one hand and speeding toward the airport. This is the last time I see this woman... she's crazy.

"You didn't tell me your wish." She said softly.

"I don't recall my wish; I think it was for talent or something. I guess even now, I dream of cultivation or something. I'm guessing the summons was to allow people the chance to cultivate…" I said softly, carefully steering the conversation so she wouldn't find a way to make everything about herself again.

"Oh… I'm sorry. I forgot about that." She said, and a downcast look settled over her face as it clicked—the fact that I couldn't cultivate, and what that meant for someone like me in a world like this.

"It's okay," I said calmly.
