Chapter 43 - The Chamber of Memory

🌑 Episode 43

The Chamber of Memory

The heavy doors slammed shut behind them.

A deep metallic echo filled the laboratory.

Ryan rushed back and tried the control panel.

"Locked. No manual override."

Victor scanned the room quickly.

"No windows. No second exit."

Lena whispered,

"He sealed us in…"

Ariba stood still.

Her eyes fixed on the glass chamber in the center.

Something about it felt… familiar.

Too familiar.

The Architect's voice echoed again.

"You always come back here, Ariba."

Ryan snapped,

"Stop playing games!"

The screens flickered—

Then multiple video feeds appeared around them.

Old lab recordings.

Experiments.

Subjects.

Ariba's breathing grew uneven.

"Turn it off…"

But the videos kept playing.

A younger version of the lab.

Scientists moving around.

And then—

A small girl.

Sitting inside the glass chamber.

Ryan whispered,

"That's you…"

Ariba couldn't speak.

The girl inside the video looked scared… but quiet.

Watching everything.

Listening.

Learning.

The Architect continued calmly,

"You were different from the others."

Victor muttered,

"What others…?"

The screens changed again.

Rows of empty chambers.

Each labeled with codes.

All marked—

TERMINATED

Silence.

Lena's voice trembled.

"She was the only one…"

The Architect confirmed it.

"Yes."

"Subject A-17 was the only success."

Ariba shook her head.

"No… I'm not an experiment."

The Architect's tone softened slightly.

"You are more than that."

Ryan stepped in front of her protectively.

"She's not anything you made."

The Architect ignored him.

He activated another file.

A memory log.

"Let me help you remember."

Suddenly—

⚡ The chamber in the center powered on.

Blue light filled the glass capsule.

Ariba felt a sharp pain in her head.

She gasped.

"Ah—!"

Ryan grabbed her.

"What's happening?!"

Lena checked the system.

"He's activating memory triggers!"

Victor aimed his gun at the cameras.

"Shut it down!"

But nothing responded.

The Architect spoke softly—

"Don't fight it, Ariba."

"Your mind remembers… even if you don't."

Ariba fell to her knees.

Flashes started appearing in her mind—

White rooms.

Cold lights.

Voices.

Her father shouting—

"Stop this experiment!"

She screamed.

Ryan held her tightly.

"I'm here! You're okay!"

But Ariba's voice broke—

"I remember…"

Everyone froze.

Lena whispered,

"What… do you remember?"

Ariba's eyes slowly opened.

Tears ran down her face.

"They were testing emotions…"

"Fear… pain… memory…"

Victor's expression darkened.

"And you survived all of it."

Ariba nodded slowly.

Then she said something that changed everything—

"I didn't just survive…"

"…I adapted."

Silence filled the lab.

Even the Architect paused for a second.

Ryan looked at her in shock.

"What does that mean?"

Ariba stood up slowly.

Her expression was different now.

Sharper.

Colder.

"I can feel it."

Lena asked carefully,

"Feel what?"

Ariba looked at the screens.

"At him."

Victor frowned.

"That's not possible."

The Architect finally spoke again—

But this time, there was a hint of surprise in his voice.

"…Interesting."

Ariba took a step forward.

"You didn't create me."

A pause.

"You unlocked something."

The Architect's smile slowly returned.

"Exactly."

Ryan stepped beside her.

"Then we end this now."

Ariba didn't look away from the screens.

"No."

Her voice was calm.

"This doesn't end with him."

Victor raised an eyebrow.

"Then what?"

Ariba's eyes darkened.

"This ends with everything he built."

The lab lights flickered again.

The system started glitching.

Lena looked at the monitors in shock.

"I didn't do that…"

Victor whispered,

"Then who did?"

Ariba didn't answer.

Because for the first time—

She wasn't just reacting.

She was changing the game.

Far away, the Architect leaned forward.

A slow smile forming.

"Now…"

"…you're finally awake."

To Be Continued…
