Chapter 4 - Exchanging Names

The woman seemed shocked by his response, her eyes wide open.

"You...How? Humans shouldn't know our language."

"Well... I do, somehow."

Adam had read through the notification he had received, understanding that it was because of his 'universal tongue' ability that he could be understood. Regardless, he wasn't about to reveal that fact.

The woman maintained silence, countless possibilities running through her mind.

"So, I'd appreciate it if you could untie me now," Adam asked, rudely interrupting her thoughts.

"Ah, uhm, but won't you try run away?" The woman awkwardly replied.

"Mm, I had a good time, though? And anyway, it's not like I've got anywhere to go."

Lina stared at him for a long moment, clearly running out of logical explanations.

Eventually, she seemed to give up trying to find one, because she leaned forward and began working at the knots around his wrists. Her fingers moved quickly, though he noticed she kept her eyes down, avoiding his gaze entirely.

Interesting. The same woman who had straddled him without a second thought couldn't look him in the eye now.

"You're embarrassed," Adam said.

"I am not," she replied immediately, her green cheeks saying otherwise.

He said nothing, letting the silence make his point for him. She freed his wrists and moved to his ankles, still not looking at him.

"It is simply..." she started, then stopped.

"Simply what?"

"You were not supposed to be able to talk back." She said it like that explained everything, which he supposed in some way it did. She had captured herself a human, fully expecting the interaction to remain entirely one-sided.

Adam sat up properly and rolled his shoulders out, glancing around the tent now that he had the freedom to do so. Simple but functional. Furs and rough-sewn fabrics, a few crude weapons mounted on a wooden frame near the entrance, some clay pots in the corner.

The woman had left his lap by this point, choosing to sit naked on a small rock in the tent.

She watched over him with some amount of suspicion, as if expecting him to immediately make a break for the exit.

Not like I feel as if I'm in any danger.

Wait, should probably confirm that.

"Hey, so... you're not gonna eat me or sacrifice me or anything like that now that we've done the deed, right?" He asked cautiously.

At his question, the woman sputtered several strange sounds in shock.

"Wha- what?! I'm not a savage, no way would I do that!" She shouted, with an offended expression.

"Good to know, just had to be sure... Anyway, I had a good time."

The woman opened her mouth, then closed it again. The offended expression shifted into something else.

"You..." she started, then seemed to think better of whatever she was going to say. She crossed her arms instead and looked away. "You are very casual about this."

"Would you prefer I panicked?"

"Most humans do."

"I'm not most humans, and anyway, what's that supposed to mean, is this a regular ordeal for you?"

"Ah- No! It's not like that... It's just that from what I've seen of the others of my kind, humans usually scream and shout and all sorts of nonsense after being captured."

So there are other goblins around here? And capturing humans is normal for them?

At Adam's prolonged silence, the goblin lady spoke up again.

"Uh, I should probably get you some clothes, right? Though... you weren't wearing any when I found you."

"Ah, yeah, I could use some, and the reason why I was naked... It wasn't exactly my own choice, so don't think that I normally walk around like that."

She nodded. Then she stood abruptly and began getting dressed, movements quick and businesslike, though mixed with a tinge of embarrassment.

Now untied, Adam could properly catch a glimpse of his 'residue' leaking out of her.

"I'll find you something." She paused at the tent entrance, her back to him. "Don't leave."

"Wasn't planning on it."

She lingered for just a moment longer than necessary, then ducked out through the flap of the tent.

As she was about to leave, Adam asked a question.

"Oh, right, I'm Adam, by the way. Do you have a name?"

She paused, and though Adam could only see her rear as her head was already outside the tent, he could tell she was slightly reluctant to answer.

He wondered if it was some sort of goblin taboo, and if he shouldn't have asked the question.

"Uh, you don't have to answer if you're uncomfortable."

He wondered why she'd be uncomfortable sharing her name after they'd just had sex, but he let those thoughts stay in his mind.

"N-no, it's fine. My name is Lina... dear." She squeaked out an answer after a period of heistation, then quickly exited the tent.

Dear?

Adam wondered what exactly that was about, but decided to shrug it off.

It was something plenty of milfs had called him, but he didn't expect to hear it from her.

W

ith Lina gone, Adam was finally alone with his thoughts.

He leaned back on the mat, staring up at the tent ceiling. A few beams of light pushed through small gaps in the hide, dust floating lazily through them.

Right. So.

He was dead. Or had been. Shot clean off a bed by a cuckolded husband in his mid-forties, which in hindsight was always a possible outcome of the lifestyle he had chosen. He bore the man no ill will.

He was now in a fantasy world of some description, had been captured within his first hour, and had already slept with a goblin.

All considered, it wasn't the worst start.

He thought the word clearly.

Status.

The panel materialised above him, hovering at a comfortable reading distance.
