Adrian stared at Maxwell for a long, tense moment. He knew Matteo's temper too well to risk it. With a frustrated sigh, he set the phone face down on the table and ignored the insistent ringing until it finally went silent.
Adrian watched as his phone screen lit up again and again, Iris was flooding him with messages, each one likely more demanding than the last.
But with Maxwell hovering nearby, practically ready to call Matteo at any moment, Adrian didn't dare touch his phone. He kept his focus on his plate, pretending to concentrate on his breakfast while the constant vibration buzzed against the table.
Did I just make a mistake letting him stay? Adrian thought.
